16:1וַיִּקַּח קֹרַח בֶּן־יִצְהָר בֶּן־קְהָת בֶּן־לֵוִי וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וְאוֹן בֶּן־פֶּלֶת בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן׃vayikach korach ben yitzhor ben kehos ben leivi vedoson vaavirom benei eliov veon ben peles benei reuveinNow Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men;
16:2וַיָּקֻמוּ לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה וַאֲנָשִׁים מִבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל חֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתָיִם נְשִׂיאֵי עֵדָה קְרִאֵי מוֹעֵד אַנְשֵׁי־שֵׁם׃vayokumu lifnei moshe vaanoshim mibenei yisroeil chamishim umosoyim nesiei eido keriei moeid anshei sheimand they rose up in face of Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty men; they were princes of the congregation, the elect men of the assembly, men of renown;
16:3וַיִּקָּהֲלוּ עַל־מֹשֶׁה וְעַל־אַהֲרֹן וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֲלֵהֶם רַב־לָכֶם כִּי כָל־הָעֵדָה כֻּלָּם קְדֹשִׁים וּבְתוֹכָם יְהוָה וּמַדּוּעַ תִּתְנַשְּׂאוּ עַל־קְהַל יְהוָה׃vayikohalu al moshe veal aharon vayomru aleihem rav lochem ki chol hoeido kulom kedoshim uvsochom Adonoy umadua tisnaseu al kehal Adonoyand they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them: ‘Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Eternal is among them; wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the assembly of the Eternal?’
16:4וַיִּשְׁמַע מֹשֶׁה וַיִּפֹּל עַל־פָּנָיו׃vayishma moshe vayipol al ponovAnd when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face.
16:5וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל־קֹרַח וְאֶל־כָּל־עֲדָתוֹ לֵאמֹר בֹּקֶר וְיֹדַע יְהוָה אֶת־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וְאֶת־הַקָּדוֹשׁ וְהִקְרִיב אֵלָיו וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַר־בּוֹ יַקְרִיב אֵלָיו׃vaydabeir el korach veel kol adoso leimor boker veyoda Adonoy es asher lo vees hakodosh vehikriv eilov veeis asher yivchar bo yakriv eilovAnd he spoke unto Korah and unto all his company, saying: ‘In the morning the Eternal will show who are His, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near unto Him; even him whom He may choose will He cause to come near unto Him. .
16:6זֹאת עֲשׂוּ קְחוּ־לָכֶם מַחְתּוֹת קֹרַח וְכָל־עֲדָתוֹ׃zos asu kechu lochem machtos korach vechol adosoThis do: take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
16:7וּתְנוּ בָהֵן אֵשׁ וְשִׂימוּ עֲלֵיהֶן קְטֹרֶת לִפְנֵי יְהוָה מָחָר וְהָיָה הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַר יְהוָה הוּא הַקָּדוֹשׁ רַב־לָכֶם בְּנֵי לֵוִי׃usnu vohein eish vesimu aleihen ketores lifnei Adonoy mochor vehoyo hoish asher yivchar Adonoy hu hakodosh rav lochem benei leiviand put fire therein, and put incense upon them before the Eternal to-morrow; and it shall be that the man whom the Eternal doth choose, he shall be holy; ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.’
16:8וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל־קֹרַח שִׁמְעוּ־נָא בְּנֵי לֵוִי׃vayomer moshe el korach shimu no benei leiviAnd Moses said unto Korah: ‘Hear now, ye sons of Levi:
16:9הַמְעַט מִכֶּם כִּי־הִבְדִּיל אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶתְכֶם מֵעֲדַת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַקְרִיב אֶתְכֶם אֵלָיו לַעֲבֹד אֶת־עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁכַּן יְהוָה וְלַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדָה לְשָׁרְתָם׃hamat mikem ki hivdil elohei yisroeil eschem meiadas yisroeil lehakriv eschem eilov laavod es avodas mishkan Adonoy velaamod lifnei hoeido leshorsomis it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of the Eternal, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them;
16:10וַיַּקְרֵב אֹתְךָ וְאֶת־כָּל־אַחֶיךָ בְנֵי־לֵוִי אִתָּךְ וּבִקַּשְׁתֶּם גַּם־כְּהֻנָּה׃vayakreiv oscho vees kol achecho venei leivi itoch uvikashtem gam kehunoand that He hath brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee? and will ye seek the priesthood also?
16:11לָכֵן אַתָּה וְכָל־עֲדָתְךָ הַנֹּעָדִים עַל־יְהוָה וְאַהֲרֹן מַה־הוּא כִּי תלונו [תַלִּינוּ] עָלָיו׃lochein ato vechol adoscho hanoodim al Adonoy veaharon ma hu ki slvnv salinu olovTherefore thou and all thy company that are gathered together against the Eternal—; and as to Aaron, what is he that ye murmur against him?’
16:12וַיִּשְׁלַח מֹשֶׁה לִקְרֹא לְדָתָן וְלַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא נַעֲלֶה׃vayishlach moshe likro ledoson velaavirom benei eliov vayomru lo naaleAnd Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said: ‘We will not come up;
16:13הַמְעַט כִּי הֶעֱלִיתָנוּ מֵאֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ לַהֲמִיתֵנוּ בַּמִּדְבָּר כִּי־תִשְׂתָּרֵר עָלֵינוּ גַּם־הִשְׂתָּרֵר׃hamat ki heelisonu meieretz zovas cholov udvash lahamiseinu bamidbor ki sistoreir oleinu gam historeiris it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but thou must needs make thyself also a prince over us?

16:14אַף לֹא אֶל־אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ הֲבִיאֹתָנוּ וַתִּתֶּן־לָנוּ נַחֲלַת שָׂדֶה וָכָרֶם הַעֵינֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים הָהֵם תְּנַקֵּר לֹא נַעֲלֶה׃af lo el eretz zovas cholov udvash haviosonu vatiten lonu nachalas sode vochorem haeinei hoanoshim hoheim tenakeir lo naaleMoreover thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.’
16:15וַיִּחַר לְמֹשֶׁה מְאֹד וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־יְהוָה אַל־תֵּפֶן אֶל־מִנְחָתָם לֹא חֲמוֹר אֶחָד מֵהֶם נָשָׂאתִי וְלֹא הֲרֵעֹתִי אֶת־אַחַד מֵהֶם׃vayichar lemoshe meod vayomer el Adonoy al teifen el minchosom lo chamor echod meihem nososi velo hareiosi es achad meihemAnd Moses was very wroth, and said unto the Eternal: ‘Respect not thou their offering; I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.’
16:16וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל־קֹרַח אַתָּה וְכָל־עֲדָתְךָ הֱיוּ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אַתָּה וָהֵם וְאַהֲרֹן מָחָר׃vayomer moshe el korach ato vechol adoscho heu lifnei Adonoy ato voheim veaharon mochorAnd Moses said unto Korah: ‘Be thou and all thy congregation before the Eternal, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow;
16:17וּקְחוּ אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ וּנְתַתֶּם עֲלֵיהֶם קְטֹרֶת וְהִקְרַבְתֶּם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ חֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתַיִם מַחְתֹּת וְאַתָּה וְאַהֲרֹן אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ׃ukchu ish machtoso unsatem aleihem ketores vehikravtem lifnei Adonoy ish machtoso chamishim umosayim machtos veato veaharon ish machtosoand take ye every man his fire-pan, and put incense upon them, and bring ye before the Eternal every man his fire-pan, two hundred and fifty fire-pans; thou also, and Aaron, each his fire-pan.’
16:18וַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ וַיִּתְּנוּ עֲלֵיהֶם אֵשׁ וַיָּשִׂימוּ עֲלֵיהֶם קְטֹרֶת וַיַּעַמְדוּ פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּמֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן׃vayikchu ish machtoso vayitenu aleihem eish vayosimu aleihem ketores vayaamdu pesach ohel moeid umoshe veaharonAnd they took every man his fire-pan, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood at the door of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron.
16:19וַיַּקְהֵל עֲלֵיהֶם קֹרַח אֶת־כָּל־הָעֵדָה אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וַיֵּרָא כְבוֹד־יְהוָה אֶל־כָּל־הָעֵדָה׃vayakheil aleihem korach es kol hoeido el pesach ohel moeid vayeiro chevod Adonoy el kol hoeido fAnd Korah assembled all the congregation against them unto the door of the tent of meeting; and the glory of the Eternal appeared unto all the congregation.

16:20וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל־אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר׃vaydabeir Adonoy el moshe veel aharon leimorAnd the Eternal spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
16:21הִבָּדְלוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאַכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע׃hibodlu mitoch hoeido hazos vaachale osom keroga’Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.’
16:22וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵל אֱלֹהֵי הָרוּחֹת לְכָל־בָּשָׂר הָאִישׁ אֶחָד יֶחֱטָא וְעַל כָּל־הָעֵדָה תִּקְצֹף׃vayipelu al peneihem vayomru eil elohei horuchos lechol bosor hoish echod yecheto veal kol hoeido tiktzof fAnd they fell upon their faces, and said: ‘O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt Thou be wroth with all the congregation?’
16:23וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃vaydabeir Adonoy el moshe leimorAnd the Eternal spoke unto Moses, saying:
16:24דַּבֵּר אֶל־הָעֵדָה לֵאמֹר הֵעָלוּ מִסָּבִיב לְמִשְׁכַּן־קֹרַח דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם׃dabeir el hoeido leimor heiolu misoviv lemishkan korach doson vaavirom’Speak unto the congregation, saying: Get you up from about the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’
16:25וַיָּקָם מֹשֶׁה וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל־דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרָיו זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃vayokom moshe vayeilech el doson vaavirom vayeilchu acharov ziknei yisroeilAnd Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
16:26וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל־הָעֵדָה לֵאמֹר סוּרוּ נָא מֵעַל אָהֳלֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים הָרְשָׁעִים הָאֵלֶּה וְאַל־תִּגְּעוּ בְּכָל־אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם פֶּן־תִּסָּפוּ בְּכָל־חַטֹּאתָם׃vaydabeir el hoeido leimor suru no meial oholei hoanoshim horshoim hoeile veal tigeu bechol asher lohem pen tisofu bechol chatosomAnd he spoke unto the congregation, saying: ‘Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be swept away in all their sins.’
16:27וַיֵּעָלוּ מֵעַל מִשְׁכַּן־קֹרֶח דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם מִסָּבִיב וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם יָצְאוּ נִצָּבִים פֶּתַח אָהֳלֵיהֶם וּנְשֵׁיהֶם וּבְנֵיהֶם וְטַפָּם׃vayeiolu meial mishkan korech doson vaavirom misoviv vedoson vaavirom yotzu nitzovim pesach oholeihem unsheihem uvneihem vetapomSo they got them up from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side; and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, with their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.
16:28וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה בְּזֹאת תֵּדְעוּן כִּי־יְהוָה שְׁלָחַנִי לַעֲשׂוֹת אֵת כָּל־הַמַּעֲשִׂים הָאֵלֶּה כִּי־לֹא מִלִּבִּי׃vayomer moshe bezos teidun ki Adonoy shelochani laasos eis kol hamaasim hoeile ki lo milibiAnd Moses said: ‘Hereby ye shall know that the Eternal hath sent me to do all these works, and that I have not done them of mine own mind.
16:29אִם־כְּמוֹת כָּל־הָאָדָם יְמֻתוּן אֵלֶּה וּפְקֻדַּת כָּל־הָאָדָם יִפָּקֵד עֲלֵיהֶם לֹא יְהוָה שְׁלָחָנִי׃im kemos kol hoodom yemusun eile ufkudas kol hoodom yipokeid aleihem lo Adonoy shelochoniIf these men die the common death of all men, and be visited after the visitation of all men, then the Eternal hath not sent Me.
16:30וְאִם־בְּרִיאָה יִבְרָא יְהוָה וּפָצְתָה הָאֲדָמָה אֶת־פִּיהָ וּבָלְעָה אֹתָם וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם וְיָרְדוּ חַיִּים שְׁאֹלָה וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי נִאֲצוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה אֶת־יְהוָה׃veim berio yivro Adonoy ufotzso hoadomo es piho uvolo osom vees kol asher lohem veyordu chayim sheolo vidatem ki niatzu hoanoshim hoeile es AdonoyBut if the Eternal make a new thing, and the ground open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down alive into the pit, then ye shall understand that these men have despised the Eternal.’
16:31וַיְהִי כְּכַלֹּתוֹ לְדַבֵּר אֵת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַתִּבָּקַע הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר תַּחְתֵּיהֶם׃vayhi kechaloso ledabeir eis kol hadevorim hoeile vatiboka hoadomo asher tachteihemAnd it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground did cleave asunder that was under them.
16:32וַתִּפְתַּח הָאָרֶץ אֶת־פִּיהָ וַתִּבְלַע אֹתָם וְאֶת־בָּתֵּיהֶם וְאֵת כָּל־הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר לְקֹרַח וְאֵת כָּל־הָרֲכוּשׁ׃vatiftach hooretz es piho vativla osom vees boteihem veeis kol hoodom asher lekorach veeis kol horachushAnd the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
16:33וַיֵּרְדוּ הֵם וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם חַיִּים שְׁאֹלָה וַתְּכַס עֲלֵיהֶם הָאָרֶץ וַיֹּאבְדוּ מִתּוֹךְ הַקָּהָל׃vayeirdu heim vechol asher lohem chayim sheolo vatechas aleihem hooretz vayovdu mitoch hakoholSo they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit; and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly.
16:34וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹתֵיהֶם נָסוּ לְקֹלָם כִּי אָמְרוּ פֶּן־תִּבְלָעֵנוּ הָאָרֶץ׃vechol yisroeil asher sevivoseihem nosu lekolom ki omru pen tivloeinu hooretzAnd all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them; for they said: ‘Lest the earth swallow us up.’
16:35וְאֵשׁ יָצְאָה מֵאֵת יְהוָה וַתֹּאכַל אֵת הַחֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתַיִם אִישׁ מַקְרִיבֵי הַקְּטֹרֶת׃veeish yotzo meieis Adonoy vatochal eis hachamishim umosayim ish makrivei haketores fAnd fire came forth from the Eternal, and devoured the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.
17:1וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃vaydabeir Adonoy el moshe leimorAnd the Eternal spoke unto Moses, saying:
17:2אֱמֹר אֶל־אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן־אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן וְיָרֵם אֶת־הַמַּחְתֹּת מִבֵּין הַשְּׂרֵפָה וְאֶת־הָאֵשׁ זְרֵה־הָלְאָה כִּי קָדֵשׁוּ׃emor el elozor ben aharon hakohein veyoreim es hamachtos mibein hasereifo vees hoeish zerei holo ki kodeishu‘Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the fire-pans out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are become holy;
17:3אֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַחַטָּאִים הָאֵלֶּה בְּנַפְשֹׁתָם וְעָשׂוּ אֹתָם רִקֻּעֵי פַחִים צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ כִּי־הִקְרִיבֻם לִפְנֵי־יְהוָה וַיִּקְדָּשׁוּ וְיִהְיוּ לְאוֹת לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃eis machtos hachatoim hoeile benafshosom veosu osom rikuei fachim tzipu lamizbeicha ki hikrivum lifnei Adonoy vayikdoshu veyihu leos livnei yisroeileven the fire-pans of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar—for they are become holy, because they were offered before the Eternal—that they may be a sign unto the children of Israel.’
17:4וַיִּקַּח אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן אֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַנְּחֹשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר הִקְרִיבוּ הַשְּׂרֻפִים וַיְרַקְּעוּם צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃vayikach elozor hakohein eis machtos hanechoshes asher hikrivu haserufim vayrakeum tzipu lamizbeichaAnd Eleazar the priest took the brazen fire-pans, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,
17:5זִכָּרוֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יִקְרַב אִישׁ זָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא מִזֶּרַע אַהֲרֹן הוּא לְהַקְטִיר קְטֹרֶת לִפְנֵי יְהוָה וְלֹא־יִהְיֶה כְקֹרַח וְכַעֲדָתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה לוֹ׃zikoron livnei yisroeil lemaan asher lo yikrav ish zor asher lo mizera aharon hu lehaktir ketores lifnei Adonoy velo yihye chekorach vechaadoso kaasher diber Adonoy beyad moshe loto be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no common man, that is not of the seed of Aaron, draw near to burn incense before the Eternal; that he fare not as Korah, and as his company; as the Eternal spoke unto him by the hand of Moses.
17:6וַיִּלֹּנוּ כָּל־עֲדַת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמָּחֳרָת עַל־מֹשֶׁה וְעַל־אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר אַתֶּם הֲמִתֶּם אֶת־עַם יְהוָה׃vayilonu kol adas benei yisroeil mimochoros al moshe veal aharon leimor atem hamitem es am AdonoyBut on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying: ‘Ye have killed the people of the Eternal.’
17:7וַיְהִי בְּהִקָּהֵל הָעֵדָה עַל־מֹשֶׁה וְעַל־אַהֲרֹן וַיִּפְנוּ אֶל־אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהִנֵּה כִסָּהוּ הֶעָנָן וַיֵּרָא כְּבוֹד יְהוָה׃vayhi behikoheil hoeido al moshe veal aharon vayifnu el ohel moeid vehinei chisohu heonon vayeiro kevod AdonoyAnd it came to pass, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Eternal appeared.
17:8וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן אֶל־פְּנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃vayovo moshe veaharon el penei ohel moeid fAnd Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting.

The Plague Halted; Aaron Stands Between the Living and the Dead

17:9וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃vaydabeir Adonoy el moshe leimorAnd the Eternal spoke unto Moses, saying:
17:10הֵרֹמּוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם׃heiromu mitoch hoeido hazos vaachale osom keroga vayipelu al peneihem’Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.’ And they fell upon their faces.

17:12וַיִּקַּח אַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר מֹשֶׁה וַיָּרָץ אֶל־תּוֹך הַקָּהָל וְהִנֵּה הֵחֵל הַנֶּגֶף בָּעָם וַיִּתֵּן אֶת־הַקְּטֹרֶת וַיְכַפֵּר עַל־הָעָם׃vayikach aharon kaasher diber moshe vayorotz el toch hakohol vehinei heicheil hanegef boom vayitein es haketores vaychapeir al hoomAnd Aaron took as Moses spoke, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.
17:13וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּין־הַמֵּתִים וּבֵין הַחַיִּים וַתֵּעָצַר הַמַּגֵּפָה׃vayaamod bein hameisim uvein hachayim vateiotzar hamageifoAnd he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
17:14וַיִּהְיוּ הַמֵּתִים בַּמַּגֵּפָה אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר אֶלֶף וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת מִלְּבַד הַמֵּתִים עַל־דְּבַר־קֹרַח׃vayihu hameisim bamageifo arboo osor elef ushva meios milevad hameisim al devar korachNow they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korah.
17:15וַיָּשָׁב אַהֲרֹן אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהַמַּגֵּפָה נֶעֱצָרָה׃vayoshov aharon el moshe el pesach ohel moeid vehamageifo neetzoro fAnd Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tent of meeting, and the plague was stayed.

17:17דַּבֵּר אֶל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְקַח מֵאִתָּם מַטֶּה מַטֶּה לְבֵית אָב מֵאֵת כָּל־נְשִׂיאֵהֶם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר מַטּוֹת אִישׁ אֶת־שְׁמוֹ תִּכְתֹּב עַל־מַטֵּהוּ׃dabeir el benei yisroeil vekach meiitom mate mate leveis ov meieis kol nesieihem leveis avosom sheneim osor matos ish es shemo tichtov al mateihu‘Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers’house, of all their princes according to their fathers’houses, twelve rods; thou shalt write every man’s name upon his rod.
17:18וְאֵת שֵׁם אַהֲרֹן תִּכְתֹּב עַל־מַטֵּה לֵוִי כִּי מַטֶּה אֶחָד לְרֹאשׁ בֵּית אֲבוֹתָם׃veeis sheim aharon tichtov al matei leivi ki mate echod lerosh beis avosomAnd thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi, for there shall be one rod for the head of their fathers’houses.
17:19וְהִנַּחְתָּם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדוּת אֲשֶׁר אִוָּעֵד לָכֶם שָׁמָּה׃vehinachtom beohel moeid lifnei hoeidus asher ivoeid lochem shomoAnd thou shalt lay them up in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you.
17:20וְהָיָה הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר אֶבְחַר־בּוֹ מַטֵּהוּ יִפְרָח וַהֲשִׁכֹּתִי מֵעָלַי אֶת־תְּלֻנּוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר הֵם מַלִּינִם עֲלֵיכֶם׃vehoyo hoish asher evchar bo mateihu yifroch vahashikosi meiola es telunos benei yisroeil asher heim malinim aleichemAnd it shall come to pass, that the man whom I shall choose, his rod shall bud; and I will make to cease from Me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you.’

18:3וְשָׁמְרוּ מִשְׁמַרְתְּךָ וּמִשְׁמֶרֶת כָּל־הָאֹהֶל אַךְ אֶל־כְּלֵי הַקֹּדֶשׁ וְאֶל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ לֹא יִקְרָבוּ וְלֹא־יָמֻתוּ גַם־הֵם גַּם־אַתֶּם׃veshomru mishmartecho umishmeres kol hoohel ach el kelei hakodesh veel hamizbeicha lo yikrovu velo yomusu gam heim gam atemAnd they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the Tent; only they shall not come nigh unto the holy furniture and unto the altar, that they die not, neither they, nor ye.
18:4וְנִלְווּ עָלֶיךָ וְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לְכֹל עֲבֹדַת הָאֹהֶל וְזָר לֹא־יִקְרַב אֲלֵיכֶם׃venilvu olecho veshomru es mishmeres ohel moeid lechol avodas hoohel vezor lo yikrav aleichemAnd they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tent of meeting, whatsoever the service of the Tent may be; but a common man shall not draw nigh unto you.
18:5וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֵת מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ וְאֵת מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְלֹא־יִהְיֶה עוֹד קֶצֶף עַל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ushmartem eis mishmeres hakodesh veeis mishmeres hamizbeicha velo yihye od ketzef al benei yisroeilAnd ye shall keep the charge of the holy things, and the charge of the altar, that there be wrath no more upon the children of Israel.
18:6וַאֲנִי הִנֵּה לָקַחְתִּי אֶת־אֲחֵיכֶם הַלְוִיִּם מִתּוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לָכֶם מַתָּנָה נְתֻנִים לַיהוָה לַעֲבֹד אֶת־עֲבֹדַת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃vaani hinei lokachti es acheichem halviyim mitoch benei yisroeil lochem matono nesunim lahvo laavod es avodas ohel moeidAnd I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel; for you they are given as a gift unto the Eternal, to do the service of the tent of meeting.
18:7וְאַתָּה וּבָנֶיךָ אִתְּךָ תִּשְׁמְרוּ אֶת־כְּהֻנַּתְכֶם לְכָל־דְּבַר הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וּלְמִבֵּית לַפָּרֹכֶת וַעֲבַדְתֶּם עֲבֹדַת מַתָּנָה אֶתֵּן אֶת־כְּהֻנַּתְכֶם וְהַזָּר הַקָּרֵב יוּמָת׃veato uvonecho itecho tishmeru es kehunaschem lechol devar hamizbeicha ulmibeis laporoches vaavadtem avodas matono etein es kehunaschem vehazor hakoreiv umos sAnd thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priesthood in everything that pertaineth to the altar, and to that within the veil; and ye shall serve; I give you the priesthood as a service of gift; and the common man that draweth nigh shall be put to death.’
18:8וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־אַהֲרֹן וַאֲנִי הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי לְךָ אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת תְּרוּמֹתָי לְכָל־קָדְשֵׁי בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל לְךָ נְתַתִּים לְמָשְׁחָה וּלְבָנֶיךָ לְחָק־עוֹלָם׃vaydabeir Adonoy el aharon vaani hinei nosati lecho es mishmeres terumoso lechol kodshei venei yisroeil lecho nesatim lemoshcho ulvonecho lechok olomAnd the Eternal spoke unto Aaron: ‘And I, behold, I have given thee the charge of My heave-offerings; even of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel unto thee have I given them for a consecrated portion, and to thy sons, as a due for ever.
18:9זֶה־יִהְיֶה לְךָ מִקֹּדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים מִן־הָאֵשׁ כָּל־קָרְבָּנָם לְכָל־מִנְחָתָם וּלְכָל־חַטָּאתָם וּלְכָל־אֲשָׁמָם אֲשֶׁר יָשִׁיבוּ לִי קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים לְךָ הוּא וּלְבָנֶיךָ׃ze yihye lecho mikodesh hakodoshim min hoeish kol korbonom lechol minchosom ulchol chatosom ulchol ashomom asher yoshivu li kodesh kodoshim lecho hu ulvonechoThis shall be thine of the most holy things, reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal-offering of theirs, and every sin-offering of theirs, and every guilt-offering of theirs, which they may render unto Me, shall be most holy for thee and for thy sons.
18:10בְּקֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים תֹּאכֲלֶנּוּ כָּל־זָכָר יֹאכַל אֹתוֹ קֹדֶשׁ יִהְיֶה־לָּךְ׃bekodesh hakodoshim tochalenu kol zochor yochal oso kodesh yihye lochIn a most holy place shalt thou eat thereof; every male may eat thereof; it shall be holy unto thee.

18:13בִּכּוּרֵי כָּל־אֲשֶׁר בְּאַרְצָם אֲשֶׁר־יָבִיאוּ לַיהוָה לְךָ יִהְיֶה כָּל־טָהוֹר בְּבֵיתְךָ יֹאכֲלֶנּוּ׃bikurei kol asher beartzom asher yoviu lahvo lecho yihye kol tohor beveischo yochalenuThe first-ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring unto the Eternal, shall be thine; every one that is clean in thy house may eat thereof.

18:15כָּל־פֶּטֶר רֶחֶם לְכָל־בָּשָׂר אֲשֶׁר־יַקְרִיבוּ לַיהוָה בָּאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָה יִהְיֶה־לָּךְ אַךְ פָּדֹה תִפְדֶּה אֵת בְּכוֹר הָאָדָם וְאֵת בְּכוֹר־הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְּמֵאָה תִּפְדֶּה׃kol peter rechem lechol bosor asher yakrivu lahvo boodom uvabeheimo yihye loch ach podo sifde eis bechor hoodom veeis bechor habeheimo hatemeio tifdeEvery thing that openeth the womb, of all flesh which they offer unto the Eternal, both of man and beast, shall be thine; howbeit the first-born of man shalt thou surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou redeem.
18:16וּפְדוּיָו מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ תִּפְדֶּה בְּעֶרְכְּךָ כֶּסֶף חֲמֵשֶׁת שְׁקָלִים בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ עֶשְׂרִים גֵּרָה הוּא׃ufduyov miben chodesh tifde beerkecho kesef chameishes shekolim beshekel hakodesh esrim geiro huAnd their redemption-money—from a month old shalt thou redeem them—shall be, according to thy valuation, five shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary—the same is twenty gerahs.
18:17אַךְ בְּכוֹר־שׁוֹר אוֹ־בְכוֹר כֶּשֶׂב אוֹ־בְכוֹר עֵז לֹא תִפְדֶּה קֹדֶשׁ הֵם אֶת־דָּמָם תִּזְרֹק עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְאֶת־חֶלְבָּם תַּקְטִיר אִשֶּׁה לְרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ לַיהוָה׃ach bechor shor o vechor kesev o vechor eiz lo sifde kodesh heim es domom tizrok al hamizbeicha vees chelbom taktir ishe lereicha nichocha lahvoBut the firstling of an ox, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: thou shalt dash their blood against the altar, and shalt make their fat smoke for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the Eternal.
18:18וּבְשָׂרָם יִהְיֶה־לָּךְ כַּחֲזֵה הַתְּנוּפָה וּכְשׁוֹק הַיָּמִין לְךָ יִהְיֶה׃uvsorom yihye loch kachazei hatenufo uchshok hayomin lecho yihyeAnd the flesh of them shall be thine, as the wave-breast and as the right thigh, it shall be thine.
18:19כֹּל תְּרוּמֹת הַקֳּדָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר יָרִימוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל לַיהוָה נָתַתִּי לְךָ וּלְבָנֶיךָ וְלִבְנֹתֶיךָ אִתְּךָ לְחָק־עוֹלָם בְּרִית מֶלַח עוֹלָם הִוא לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לְךָ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ אִתָּךְ׃kol terumos hakodoshim asher yorimu venei yisroeil lahvo nosati lecho ulvonecho velivnosecho itecho lechok olom beris melach olom hiv lifnei Adonoy lecho ulzaracho itochAll the heave-offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the Eternal, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, as a due for ever; it is an everlasting covenant of salt before the Eternal unto thee and to thy seed with thee.’

18:23וְעָבַד הַלֵּוִי הוּא אֶת־עֲבֹדַת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהֵם יִשְׂאוּ עֲוֺנָם חֻקַּת עוֹלָם לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם וּבְתוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא יִנְחֲלוּ נַחֲלָה׃veovad haleivi hu es avodas ohel moeid veheim yisu aonom chukas olom ledoroseichem uvsoch benei yisroeil lo yinchalu nachaloBut the Levites alone shall do the service of the tent of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, and among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
18:24כִּי אֶת־מַעְשַׂר בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר יָרִימוּ לַיהוָה תְּרוּמָה נָתַתִּי לַלְוִיִּם לְנַחֲלָה עַל־כֵּן אָמַרְתִּי לָהֶם בְּתוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא יִנְחֲלוּ נַחֲלָה׃ki es masar benei yisroeil asher yorimu lahvo terumo nosati lalviyim lenachalo al kein omarti lohem besoch benei yisroeil lo yinchalu nachalo fFor the tithe of the children of Israel, which they set apart as a gift unto the Eternal, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I have said unto them: Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’
18:25וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃vaydabeir Adonoy el moshe leimorAnd the Eternal spoke unto Moses, saying:
18:26וְאֶל־הַלְוִיִּם תְּדַבֵּר וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם כִּי־תִקְחוּ מֵאֵת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הַמַּעֲשֵׂר אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לָכֶם מֵאִתָּם בְּנַחֲלַתְכֶם וַהֲרֵמֹתֶם מִמֶּנּוּ תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה מַעֲשֵׂר מִן־הַמַּעֲשֵׂר׃veel halviyim tedabeir veomarto aleihem ki sikchu meieis benei yisroeil es hamaaseir asher nosati lochem meiitom benachalaschem vahareimosem mimenu terumas Adonoy maaseir min hamaaseir’Moreover thou shalt speak unto the Levites, and say unto them: When ye take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall set apart of it a gift for the Eternal, even a tithe of the tithe.
18:27וְנֶחְשַׁב לָכֶם תְּרוּמַתְכֶם כַּדָּגָן מִן־הַגֹּרֶן וְכַמְלֵאָה מִן־הַיָּקֶב׃venechshav lochem terumaschem kadogon min hagoren vechamleio min hayokevAnd the gift which ye set apart shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshing-floor, and as the fulness of the wine-press.
18:28כֵּן תָּרִימוּ גַם־אַתֶּם תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה מִכֹּל מַעְשְׂרֹתֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר תִּקְחוּ מֵאֵת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּנְתַתֶּם מִמֶּנּוּ אֶת־תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה לְאַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן׃kein torimu gam atem terumas Adonoy mikol maseroseichem asher tikchu meieis benei yisroeil unsatem mimenu es terumas Adonoy leaharon hakoheinThus ye also shall set apart a gift unto the Eternal of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and thereof ye shall give the gift which is set apart unto the Eternal to Aaron the priest.
18:29מִכֹּל מַתְּנֹתֵיכֶם תָּרִימוּ אֵת כָּל־תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה מִכָּל־חֶלְבּוֹ אֶת־מִקְדְּשׁוֹ מִמֶּנּוּ׃mikol matenoseichem torimu eis kol terumas Adonoy mikol chelbo es mikdesho mimenuOut of all that is given you ye shall set apart all of that which is due unto the Eternal, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.

18:31וַאֲכַלְתֶּם אֹתוֹ בְּכָל־מָקוֹם אַתֶּם וּבֵיתְכֶם כִּי־שָׂכָר הוּא לָכֶם חֵלֶף עֲבֹדַתְכֶם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃vaachaltem oso bechol mokom atem uveischem ki sochor hu lochem cheilef avodaschem beohel moeidAnd ye may eat it in every place, ye and your households; for it is your reward in return for your service in the tent of meeting.
18:32וְלֹא־תִשְׂאוּ עָלָיו חֵטְא בַּהֲרִימְכֶם אֶת־חֶלְבּוֹ מִמֶּנּוּ וְאֶת־קָדְשֵׁי בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא תְחַלְּלוּ וְלֹא תָמוּתוּ׃velo sisu olov cheit baharimchem es chelbo mimenu vees kodshei venei yisroeil lo sechalelu velo somusu fAnd ye shall bear no sin by reason of it, seeing that ye have set apart from it the best thereof; and ye shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that ye die not.’

12:3הִנְנִי עֲנוּ בִי נֶגֶד יְהוָה וְנֶגֶד מְשִׁיחוֹ אֶת־שׁוֹר מִי לָקַחְתִּי וַחֲמוֹר מִי לָקַחְתִּי וְאֶת־מִי עָשַׁקְתִּי אֶת־מִי רַצּוֹתִי וּמִיַּד־מִי לָקַחְתִּי כֹפֶר וְאַעְלִים עֵינַי בּוֹ וְאָשִׁיב לָכֶם׃hinni anu vi neged Adonoy veneged meshicho es shor mi lokachti vachamor mi lokachti vees mi oshakti es mi ratzosi umiyad mi lokachti chofer vealim eina bo veoshiv lochemHere I am; witness against me before the Eternal, and before His anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? or whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.’
12:4וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא עֲשַׁקְתָּנוּ וְלֹא רַצּוֹתָנוּ וְלֹא־לָקַחְתָּ מִיַּד־אִישׁ מְאוּמָה׃vayomru lo ashaktonu velo ratzosonu velo lokachto miyad ish meumoAnd they said: ‘Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man’s hand.’
12:5וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם עֵד יְהוָה בָּכֶם וְעֵד מְשִׁיחוֹ הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי לֹא מְצָאתֶם בְּיָדִי מְאוּמָה וַיֹּאמֶר עֵד׃vayomer aleihem eid Adonoy bochem veeid meshicho haom haze ki lo metzosem beyodi meumo vayomer eid fAnd he said unto them: ‘The the Eternal is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand.’ And they said: ‘He is witness.’
12:6וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־הָעָם יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶת־אַהֲרֹן וַאֲשֶׁר הֶעֱלָה אֶת־אֲבֹתֵיכֶם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃vayomer shemueil el hoom Adonoy asher oso es moshe vees aharon vaasher heelo es avoseichem meieretz mitzroyimAnd Samuel said unto the people: ‘It is the Eternal that made Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
12:7וְעַתָּה הִתְיַצְּבוּ וְאִשָּׁפְטָה אִתְּכֶם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֵת כָּל־צִדְקוֹת יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה אִתְּכֶם וְאֶת־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם׃veato hisyatzevu veishofto itechem lifnei Adonoy eis kol tzidkos Adonoy asher oso itechem vees avoseichemNow therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before the Eternal concerning all the righteous acts of the Eternal, which He did to you and to your fathers.
12:8כַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּא יַעֲקֹב מִצְרָיִם וַיִּזְעֲקוּ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם אֶל־יְהוָה וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶת־אַהֲרֹן וַיּוֹצִיאוּ אֶת־אֲבֹתֵיכֶם מִמִּצְרַיִם וַיֹּשִׁבוּם בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה׃kaasher bo yaakov mitzroyim vayizaku avoseichem el Adonoy vayishlach Adonoy es moshe vees aharon vaotziu es avoseichem mimitzrayim vayoshivum bamokom hazeWhen Jacob was come into Egypt, then your fathers cried unto the Eternal, and the Eternal sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and they were made to dwell in this place.
12:9וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּ אֶת־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וַיִּמְכֹּר אֹתָם בְּיַד סִיסְרָא שַׂר־צְבָא חָצוֹר וּבְיַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּים וּבְיַד מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב וַיִּלָּחֲמוּ בָּם׃vayishkechu es Adonoy eloheihem vayimkor osom beyad sisro sar tzevo chotzor uvyad pelishtim uvyad melech moov vayilochamu bomBut they forgot the Eternal their God, and He gave them over into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
12:10וַיִּזְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהוָה ויאמר [וַיֹּאמְרוּ] חָטָאנוּ כִּי עָזַבְנוּ אֶת־יְהוָה וַנַּעֲבֹד אֶת־הַבְּעָלִים וְאֶת־הָעַשְׁתָּרוֹת וְעַתָּה הַצִּילֵנוּ מִיַּד אֹיְבֵינוּ וְנַעַבְדֶךָּ׃vayizaku el Adonoy vmr vayomru chotonu ki ozavnu es Adonoy vanaavod es habeolim vees hoashtoros veato hatzileinu miyad oyveinu venaavdekoAnd they cried unto the Eternal, and said: We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Eternal, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve Thee.
12:11וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהוָה אֶת־יְרֻבַּעַל וְאֶת־בְּדָן וְאֶת־יִפְתָּח וְאֶת־שְׁמוּאֵל וַיַּצֵּל אֶתְכֶם מִיַּד אֹיְבֵיכֶם מִסָּבִיב וַתֵּשְׁבוּ בֶּטַח׃vayishlach Adonoy es yerubaal vees bedon vees yiftoch vees shemueil vayatzeil eschem miyad oyveichem misoviv vateishvu betachAnd the Eternal sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.
12:12וַתִּרְאוּ כִּי־נָחָשׁ מֶלֶךְ בְּנֵי־עַמּוֹן בָּא עֲלֵיכֶם וַתֹּאמְרוּ לִי לֹא כִּי־מֶלֶךְ יִמְלֹךְ עָלֵינוּ וַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם מַלְכְּכֶם׃vatiru ki nochosh melech benei amon bo aleichem vatomru li lo ki melech yimloch oleinu vahvo eloheichem malkechemAnd when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me: Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when the Eternal your God was your king.
12:13וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר בְּחַרְתֶּם אֲשֶׁר שְׁאֶלְתֶּם וְהִנֵּה נָתַן יְהוָה עֲלֵיכֶם מֶלֶךְ׃veato hinei hamelech asher bechartem asher sheeltem vehinei nosan Adonoy aleichem melechNow therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for; and, behold, the Eternal hath set a king over you.
12:14אִם־תִּירְאוּ אֶת־יְהוָה וַעֲבַדְתֶּם אֹתוֹ וּשְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקֹלוֹ וְלֹא תַמְרוּ אֶת־פִּי יְהוָה וִהְיִתֶם גַּם־אַתֶּם וְגַם־הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ עֲלֵיכֶם אַחַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃im tiru es Adonoy vaavadtem oso ushmatem bekolo velo samru es pi Adonoy vihyisem gam atem vegam hamelech asher molach aleichem achar Adonoy eloheichemIf ye will fear the Eternal, and serve Him, and hearken unto His voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Eternal, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of the Eternal your God—;
12:15וְאִם־לֹא תִשְׁמְעוּ בְּקוֹל יְהוָה וּמְרִיתֶם אֶת־פִּי יְהוָה וְהָיְתָה יַד־יְהוָה בָּכֶם וּבַאֲבֹתֵיכֶם׃veim lo sishmeu bekol Adonoy umrisem es pi Adonoy vehoyso yad Adonoy bochem uvaavoseichembut if ye will not hearken unto the voice of the Eternal, but rebel against the commandment of the Eternal, then shall the hand of the Eternal be against you, and against your fathers.
12:16גַּם־עַתָּה הִתְיַצְּבוּ וּרְאוּ אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַגָּדוֹל הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה עֹשֶׂה לְעֵינֵיכֶם׃gam ato hisyatzevu uru es hadovor hagodol haze asher Adonoy ose leeineichemNow therefore stand still and see this great thing, which the Eternal will do before your eyes.
12:17הֲלוֹא קְצִיר־חִטִּים הַיּוֹם אֶקְרָא אֶל־יְהוָה וְיִתֵּן קֹלוֹת וּמָטָר וּדְעוּ וּרְאוּ כִּי־רָעַתְכֶם רַבָּה אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה לִשְׁאוֹל לָכֶם מֶלֶךְ׃halo ketzir chitim haom ekro el Adonoy veyitein kolos umotor udu uru ki roaschem rabo asher asisem beeinei Adonoy lishol lochem melech sIs it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto the Eternal, that He may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the Eternal, in asking you a king.’
12:18וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־יְהוָה וַיִּתֵּן יְהוָה קֹלֹת וּמָטָר בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וַיִּירָא כָל־הָעָם מְאֹד אֶת־יְהוָה וְאֶת־שְׁמוּאֵל׃vayikro shemueil el Adonoy vayitein Adonoy kolos umotor baom hahu vayiro chol hoom meod es Adonoy vees shemueilSo Samuel called unto the Eternal; and the Eternal sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Eternal and Samuel.
12:19וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָל־הָעָם אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל הִתְפַּלֵּל בְּעַד־עֲבָדֶיךָ אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְאַל־נָמוּת כִּי־יָסַפְנוּ עַל־כָּל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּ רָעָה לִשְׁאֹל לָנוּ מֶלֶךְ׃vayomru chol hoom el shemueil hispaleil bead avodecho el Adonoy elohecho veal nomus ki yosafnu al kol chatoseinu roo lishol lonu melech sAnd all the people said unto Samuel: ‘Pray for thy servants unto the Eternal thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.’
12:20וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־הָעָם אַל־תִּירָאוּ אַתֶּם עֲשִׂיתֶם אֵת כָּל־הָרָעָה הַזֹּאת אַךְ אַל־תָּסוּרוּ מֵאַחֲרֵי יְהוָה וַעֲבַדְתֶּם אֶת־יְהוָה בְּכָל־לְבַבְכֶם׃vayomer shemueil el hoom al tirou atem asisem eis kol horoo hazos ach al tosuru meiacharei Adonoy vaavadtem es Adonoy bechol levavchemAnd Samuel said unto the people: ‘Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following the Eternal, but serve the Eternal with all your heart;
12:21וְלֹא תָּסוּרוּ כִּי אַחֲרֵי הַתֹּהוּ אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יוֹעִילוּ וְלֹא יַצִּילוּ כִּי־תֹהוּ הֵמָּה׃velo tosuru ki acharei hatohu asher lo oilu velo yatzilu ki sohu heimoand turn ye not aside; for then should ye go after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain.
12:22כִּי לֹא־יִטֹּשׁ יְהוָה אֶת־עַמּוֹ בַּעֲבוּר שְׁמוֹ הַגָּדוֹל כִּי הוֹאִיל יְהוָה לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶתְכֶם לוֹ לְעָם׃ki lo yitosh Adonoy es amo baavur shemo hagodol ki hoil Adonoy laasos eschem lo leomFor the Eternal will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake; because it hath pleased the Eternal to make you a people unto Himself.
