41:1 וַיְהִי מִקֵּץ שְׁנָתַיִם יָמִים וּפַרְעֹה חֹלֵם וְהִנֵּה עֹמֵד עַל־הַיְאֹר׃ Vayehi miketz shenatayim yamim, uFar‘oh jolem; vehiné ‘omed ‘al haye’or. And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
41:2 וְהִנֵּה מִן־הַיְאֹר עֹלוֹת שֶׁבַע פָּרוֹת יְפוֹת מַרְאֶה וּבְרִיאֹת בָּשָׂר וַתִּרְעֶינָה בָּאָחוּ׃ Vehiné min haye’or ‘olot sheva parot yefot mar’eh uveri’ot basar; vatir‘enah ba’aju. And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, well-favoured and fat-fleshed; and they fed in the reed-grass.
41:3 וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע פָּרוֹת אֲחֵרוֹת עֹלוֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶן מִן־הַיְאֹר רָעוֹת מַרְאֶה וְדַקּוֹת בָּשָׂר וַתַּעֲמֹדְנָה אֵצֶל הַפָּרוֹת עַל־שְׂפַת הַיְאֹר׃ Vehiné sheva parot ajerot ‘olot ajareihen min haye’or, ra‘ot mar’eh vedakot basar; vata‘amodnah etzel haparot ‘al sefat haye’or. And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill-favoured and lean-fleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
41:4 וַתֹּאכַלְנָה הַפָּרוֹת רָעוֹת הַמַּרְאֶה וְדַקֹּת הַבָּשָׂר אֵת שֶׁבַע הַפָּרוֹת יְפוֹת הַמַּרְאֶה וְהַבְּרִיאֹת וַיִּיקַץ פַּרְעֹה׃ Vato’jalnah haparot ra‘ot hamar’eh vedakot habasar et sheva haparot yefot hamar’eh vehaberi’ot; vayikatz Par‘oh. And the ill-favoured and lean-fleshed kine did eat up the seven well-favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
41:5 וַיִּישָׁן וַיַּחֲלֹם שֵׁנִית וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע שִׁבֳּלִים עֹלוֹת בְּקָנֶה אֶחָד בְּרִיאוֹת וְטֹבוֹת׃ Vayishan vayajalom shenit; vehiné sheva shibolim ‘olot beqane ejad, beri’ot vetovot. And he slept and dreamed a second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
41:6 וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע שִׁבֳּלִים דַּקּוֹת וּשְׁדוּפוֹת קָדִים צֹמְחוֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶן׃ Vehiné sheva shibolim dakot ushdufot qadim tzomjot ajareihen. And, behold, seven ears, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
41:7 וַתִּבְלַעְנָה הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הַדַּקּוֹת אֵת שֶׁבַע הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הַבְּרִיאוֹת וְהַמְּלֵאוֹת וַיִּיקַץ פַּרְעֹה וְהִנֵּה חֲלוֹם׃ Vatibla‘nah hashibolim hadakot et sheva hashibolim haberi’ot vehamle’ot; vayikatz Par‘oh, vehiné jalom. And the thin ears swallowed up the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
41:8 וַיְהִי בַבֹּקֶר וַתִּפָּעֶם רוּחוֹ וַיִּשְׁלַח וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־כָּל־חַרְטֻמֵּי מִצְרַיִם וְאֶת־כָּל־חֲכָמֶיהָ וַיְסַפֵּר פַּרְעֹה לָהֶם אֶת־חֲלֹמוֹ וְאֵין פּוֹתֵר אוֹתָם לְפַרְעֹה׃ Vayehi baboqer vatipa‘em rujó; vayishlaj vayiqra et kol-jartumei Mitzrayim ve’et kol-jajameha; vayesaper Par‘oh lahem et jalomó, ve’en poter otam leFar‘oh. And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof; and Pharaoh told them his dreams; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
41:9 וַיְדַבֵּר שַׂר הַמַּשְׁקִים אֶת־פַּרְעֹה לֵאמֹר אֶת־חֲטָאַי אֲנִי מַזְכִּיר הַיּוֹם׃ Vayedaber sar hamashqim et Par‘oh lemor: et-jata’ai ani mazkir hayom. Then spoke the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying: ‘I do remember my faults this day:
41:10 פַּרְעֹה קָצַף עַל־עֲבָדָיו וַיִּתֵּן אֹתִי בְמִשְׁמַר בֵּית שַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים אֹתִי וְאֵת שַׂר הָאֹפִים׃ Par‘oh qatzaf ‘al ‘avadav; vayiten oti vemishmar beit sar hatabajim—oti ve’et sar ha’ofim. Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.
41:11 וַנַּחֲלְמָה חֲלוֹם בְּלַיְלָה אֶחָד אֲנִי וָהוּא אִישׁ כְּפִתְרוֹן חֲלוֹמוֹ חָלָמְנוּ׃ Vanajalmah jalom belaila ejad—ani vahu; ish kefitron jalomó jalamnu. And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
41:12 וְשָׁם אִתָּנוּ נַעַר עִבְרִי עֶבֶד לְשַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים וַנְּסַפֶּר־לוֹ וַיִּפְתָּר־לָנוּ אֶת־חֲלֹמֹתֵינוּ אִישׁ כַּחֲלֹמוֹ פָּתָר׃ Vesham itanu na‘ar ‘Ivri, ‘eved lesar hatabajim; vanesaper lo, vayiftar lanu et jalomoteinu—ish kajalomó patar. And there was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
41:13 וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר פָּתַר לָנוּ כֵּן הָיָה אֹתִי הֵשִׁיב עַל־כַּנִּי וְאֹתוֹ תָלָה׃ Vayehi ka’asher patar lanu, ken haya; oti heshiv ‘al kani, ve’oto talah. And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was: me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
41:14 וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־יוֹסֵף וַיְרִיצֻהוּ מִן־הַבּוֹר וַיְגַלַּח וַיְחַלֵּף שִׂמְלֹתָיו וַיָּבֹא אֶל־פַּרְעֹה׃ Vayishlaj Par‘oh vayiqra et Yosef; vayeritzuhu min habor; vayegallaj vayejalef simlotav; vayavo el Par‘oh. Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

41:15 וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יוֹסֵף חֲלוֹם חָלַמְתִּי וּפֹתֵר אֵין אֹתוֹ וַאֲנִי שָׁמַעְתִּי עָלֶיךָ לֵאמֹר תִּשְׁמַע חֲלוֹם לִפְתֹּר אֹתוֹ׃ Vayomer Par‘oh el Yosef: Jalom jalamti, upoter en oto; va’ani sham‘ati ‘aleikha lemor: tishma jalom liftor oto. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph: ‘I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it; and I have heard say of thee, that when thou hearest a dream thou canst interpret it.’
41:16 וַיַּעַן יוֹסֵף אֶת־פַּרְעֹה לֵאמֹר בִּלְעָדָי אֱלֹהִים יַעֲנֶה אֶת־שְׁלוֹם פַּרְעֹה׃ Vaya‘an Yosef et Par‘oh lemor: Bil‘adai—Elohim ya‘ane et shalom Par‘oh. And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying: ‘It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.’
41:17 וַיְדַבֵּר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יוֹסֵף בַּחֲלֹמִי הִנְנִי עֹמֵד עַל־שְׂפַת הַיְאֹר׃ Vayedaber Par‘oh el Yosef: Bajalomi hineni ‘omed ‘al sefat haye’or. And Pharaoh spoke unto Joseph: ‘In my dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the river;
41:18 וְהִנֵּה מִן־הַיְאֹר עֹלוֹת שֶׁבַע פָּרוֹת בְּרִיאוֹת בָּשָׂר וִיפֹת תֹּאַר וַתִּרְעֶינָה בָּאָחוּ׃ Vehiné min haye’or ‘olot sheva parot beri’ot basar vifot to’ar; vatir‘enah ba’aju. and, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fat-fleshed and well-favoured; and they fed in the reed-grass;
41:19 וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע פָּרוֹת אֲחֵרוֹת עֹלוֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶן דַּלּוֹת וְרָעוֹת תֹּאַר מְאֹד וְרַקּוֹת בָּשָׂר לֹא־רָאִיתִי כָהֵנָּה בְּכָל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם לָרֹעַ׃ Vehiné sheva parot ajerot ‘olot ajareihen, dalot vera‘ot to’ar me’od veraqqot basar; lo ra’iti kahenah bekhol eretz Mitzrayim leroa‘. and, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill-favoured and lean-fleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness;
41:20 וַתֹּאכַלְנָה הַפָּרוֹת הָרַקּוֹת וְהָרָעוֹת אֵת שֶׁבַע הַפָּרוֹת הָרִאשֹׁנוֹת הַבְּרִיאֹת׃ Vato’jalnah haparot haraqqot vehara‘ot et sheva haparot harishonot haberi’ot. and the lean and ill-favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine;
41:21 וַתָּבֹאנָה אֶל־קִרְבֶּנָה וְלֹא נוֹדַע כִּי־בָאוּ אֶל־קִרְבֶּנָה וּמַרְאֵיהֶן רַע כַּאֲשֶׁר בַּתְּחִלָּה וָאִיקָץ׃ Vatavo’nah el qirbenah, velo noda‘ ki va’u el qirbenah; umar’eihen ra‘ ka’asher battejillah; va’iqatz. and when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill-favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
41:22 וָאֵרֶא בַּחֲלֹמִי וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע שִׁבֳּלִים עֹלוֹת בְּקָנֶה אֶחָד מְלֵאֹת וְטֹבוֹת׃ Va’ere bajalomi, vehiné sheva shibolim ‘olot beqane ejad—mele’ot vetovot. And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up upon one stalk, full and good;
41:23 וְהִנֵּה שֶׁבַע שִׁבֳּלִים צְנֻמוֹת דַּקּוֹת שְׁדֻפוֹת קָדִים צֹמְחוֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶם׃ Vehiné sheva shibolim tzenumot, dakot, shdufot qadim—tzomjot ajareihen. and, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them;
41:24 וַתִּבְלַעְנָה הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הַדַּקֹּת אֵת שֶׁבַע הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הַטֹּבוֹת וָאֹמַר אֶל־הַחַרְטֻמִּים וְאֵין מַגִּיד לִי׃ Vatibla‘nah hashibolim hadakot et sheva hashibolim hatovot; va’omar el hajartumim, ve’en maggid li. and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.’
41:25 וַיֹּאמֶר יוֹסֵף אֶל־פַּרְעֹה חֲלוֹם פַּרְעֹה אֶחָד הוּא אֵת אֲשֶׁר הָאֱלֹהִים עֹשֶׂה הִגִּיד לְפַרְעֹה׃ Vayomer Yosef el Par‘oh: Jalom Par‘oh ejad hu; et asher ha’Elohim ‘ose—higgid lePar‘oh. And Joseph said unto Pharaoh: ‘The dream of Pharaoh is one; what God is about to do He hath declared unto Pharaoh.
41:26 שֶׁבַע פָּרוֹת הַטֹּבוֹת שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים הֵנָּה וְשֶׁבַע הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הַטֹּבוֹת שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים הֵנָּה חֲלוֹם אֶחָד הוּא׃ Sheva parot hatovot—sheva shanim henah; vesheva hashibolim hatovot—sheva shanim henah; jalom ejad hu. The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.
41:27 וְשֶׁבַע הַפָּרוֹת הָרַקּוֹת וְהָרָעוֹת הָעֹלוֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶן שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים הֵנָּה וְשֶׁבַע הַשִּׁבֳּלִים הָרֵקוֹת שְׁדֻפוֹת הַקָּדִים יִהְיוּ שֶׁבַע שְׁנֵי רָעָב׃ Vesheva haparot haraqqot vehara‘ot ha‘olot ajareihen—sheva shanim henah; vesheva hashibolim hareqot shdufot haqadim—yihyu sheva shenei ra‘av. And the seven lean and ill-favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and also the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind; they shall be seven years of famine.
41:28 הוּא הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶל־פַּרְעֹה אֵת אֲשֶׁר הָאֱלֹהִים עֹשֶׂה הֶרְאָה אֶת־פַּרְעֹה׃ Hu hadavar asher dibarti el Par‘oh: et asher ha’Elohim ‘ose—her’ah et Par‘oh. That is the thing which I spoke unto Pharaoh: what God is about to do He hath shown unto Pharaoh.
41:29 הִנֵּה שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים בָּאוֹת שָׂבָע גָּדוֹל בְּכָל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Hinéh sheva shanim ba’ot sava‘ gadol bekhol eretz Mitzrayim. Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt;
41:30 וְקָמוּ שֶׁבַע שְׁנֵי רָעָב אַחֲרֵיהֶן וְנִשְׁכַּח כָּל־הַשָּׂבָע בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וְכִלָּה הָרָעָב אֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃ Veqamu sheva shenei ra‘av ajareihen; venishkaj kol hasava‘ be’eretz Mitzrayim; vekhillah hara‘av et ha’aretz. and there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
41:31 וְלֹא־יִוָּדַע הַשָּׂבָע בָּאָרֶץ מִפְּנֵי הָרָעָב הַהוּא אַחֲרֵי־כֵן כִּי־כָבֵד הוּא מְאֹד׃ Velo yivvada‘ hasava‘ ba’aretz mipnei hara‘av hahu ajarei-ken, ki kaved hu me’od. and the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
41:32 וְעַל הִשָּׁנוֹת הַחֲלוֹם אֶל־פַּרְעֹה פַּעֲמָיִם כִּי־נָכוֹן הַדָּבָר מֵעִם הָאֱלֹהִים וּמְמַהֵר הָאֱלֹהִים לַעֲשֹׂתוֹ׃ Ve‘al hishanot hachalom el Par‘oh pa‘amayim—ki nachon hadavar me‘im ha’Elohim; umemaher ha’Elohim la‘asoto. And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice, it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
41:33 וְעַתָּה יֵרֶא פַּרְעֹה אִישׁ נָבוֹן וְחָכָם וִישִׁיתֵהוּ עַל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Ve‘atah yere Par‘oh ish navon vejajam; veyashitehu ‘al eretz Mitzrayim. Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
41:34 יַעֲשֶׂה פַרְעֹה וְיַפְקֵד פְּקִדִים עַל־הָאָרֶץ וְחִמֵּשׁ אֶת־אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּשֶׁבַע שְׁנֵי הַשָּׂבָע׃ Ya‘ase Par‘oh veyafqed peqidim ‘al ha’aretz; vejimmesh et eretz Mitzrayim besheva shenei hasava‘. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty.
41:35 וְיִקְבְּצוּ אֶת־כָּל־אֹכֶל הַשָּׁנִים הַטֹּבֹת הַבָּאֹת הָאֵלֶּה וְיִצְבְּרוּ־בָר תַּחַת יַד־פַּרְעֹה אֹכֶל בֶּעָרִים וְשָׁמָרוּ׃ Veyiqbetzu et kol-ochel hashanim hatovot haba’ot ha’eleh; veyitzberu var tajat yad-Par‘oh—ochel be‘arim veshamaru. And let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
41:36 וְהָיָה הָאֹכֶל לְפִקָּדוֹן לָאָרֶץ לְשֶׁבַע שְׁנֵי הָרָעָב אֲשֶׁר תִּהְיֶיןָ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וְלֹא־תִכָּרֵת הָאָרֶץ בָּרָעָב׃ Vehaya ha’ochel lefiqqadon la’aretz lesheva shenei hara‘av asher tihyenah be’eretz Mitzrayim; velo tikkaret ha’aretz bara‘av. And the food shall be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.’
41:37 וַיִּיטַב הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי פַרְעֹה וּבְעֵינֵי כָּל־עֲבָדָיו׃ Vayitav hadavar be‘enei Par‘oh uve‘enei kol-‘avadav. And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
41:38 וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־עֲבָדָיו הֲנִמְצָא כָזֶה אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים בּוֹ׃ Vayomer Par‘oh el ‘avadav: Hanimtza kazeh ish asher ruaḥ Elohim bo? And Pharaoh said unto his servants: ‘Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom the spirit of God is?’

41:39 וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יוֹסֵף אַחֲרֵי הוֹדִיעַ אֱלֹהִים אוֹתְךָ אֶת־כָּל־זֹאת אֵין־נָבוֹן וְחָכָם כָּמוֹךָ׃ Vayomer Par‘oh el Yosef: Ajarei hodi‘a Elohim otkha et kol-zot—en navon vejajam kamokha. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph: ‘Forasmuch as God hath shown thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou;
41:40 אַתָּה תִּהְיֶה עַל־בֵּיתִי וְעַל־פִּיךָ יִשַּׁק כָּל־עַמִּי רַק הַכִּסֵּא אֶגְדַּל מִמֶּךָּ׃ Atah tihye ‘al beiti, ve‘al pikha yishaq kol-‘ammi; raq hakisse egdal mimmeḵa. thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled; only in the throne will I be greater than thou.’
41:41 וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יוֹסֵף רְאֵה נָתַתִּי אֹתְךָ עַל כָּל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Vayomer Par‘oh el Yosef: Re’eh, natatti otkha ‘al kol-eretz Mitzrayim. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph: ‘See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.’
41:42 וַיָּסַר פַּרְעֹה אֶת־טַבַּעְתּוֹ מֵעַל יָדוֹ וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָהּ עַל־יַד יוֹסֵף וַיַּלְבֵּשׁ אֹתוֹ בִּגְדֵי־שֵׁשׁ וַיָּשֶׂם רְבִד הַזָּהָב עַל־צַוָּארוֹ׃ Vayasar Par‘oh et taba‘to me‘al yado, vayiten otah ‘al yad Yosef; vayalbish oto bigdei-shesh; vayasem revid hazahav ‘al tzavaro. And Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
41:43 וַיַּרְכֵּב אֹתוֹ בְּמִרְכֶּבֶת הַמִּשְׁנֶה אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וַיִּקְרְאוּ לְפָנָיו אַבְרֵךְ וְנָתוֹן אֹתוֹ עַל כָּל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Vayarkev oto bemirkevet hamishneh asher lo; vayiqre’u lefanav: Avrekh! venaton oto ‘al kol-eretz Mitzrayim. and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him: ‘Abrech’; and he set him over all the land of Egypt.
41:44 וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יוֹסֵף אֲנִי פַרְעֹה וּבִלְעָדֶיךָ לֹא־יָרִים אִישׁ אֶת־יָדוֹ וְאֶת־רַגְלוֹ בְּכָל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Vayomer Par‘oh el Yosef: Ani Par‘oh; uvil‘adeikha lo yarim ish et yado ve’et raglo bekhol eretz Mitzrayim. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph: ‘I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.’
41:45 וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה שֵׁם־יוֹסֵף צָפְנַת פַּעְנֵחַ וַיִּתֶּן־לוֹ אֶת־אָסְנַת בַּת־פּוֹטִי פֶרַע כֹּהֵן אֹן לְאִשָּׁה וַיֵּצֵא יוֹסֵף עַל־אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃ Vayiqra Par‘oh shem-Yosef Tzafnat Pa‘neaj; vayiten lo et Asnat bat-Poti Fera‘ kohen On le’ishah; vayetze Yosef ‘al eretz Mitzrayim. And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

41:47 וַתַּעַשׂ הָאָרֶץ בְּשֶׁבַע שְׁנֵי הַשָּׂבָע לִקְמָצִים׃ Vata‘as ha’aretz besheva shenei hasava‘ liqmatzim. And in the seven years of plenty the earth brought forth in handfuls.
41:48 וַיִּקְבֹּץ אֶת־כָּל־אֹכֶל שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם וַיִּתֵּן אֹכֶל בֶּעָרִים אֹכֶל שְׂדֵה־הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹתֶיהָ נָתַן בְּתוֹכָהּ׃ Vayiqbotz et kol-ochel sheva shanim asher hayu be’eretz Mitzrayim; vayiten ochel be‘arim—ochel sedeh ha‘ir asher sevivotéha, natan betojah. And he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
41:49 וַיִּצְבֹּר יוֹסֵף בָּר כְּחוֹל הַיָּם הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד עַד כִּי־חָדַל לִסְפֹּר כִּי־אֵין מִסְפָּר׃ Vayitzbor Yosef bar kejol hayam—harbeh me’od; ‘ad ki-jadal lispor, ki en mispar. And Joseph laid up corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering; for it was without number.
41:50 וּלְיוֹסֵף יֻלַּד שְׁנֵי־בָנִים בְּטֶרֶם תָּבוֹא שְׁנַת הָרָעָב אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה־לּוֹ אָסְנַת בַּת־פּוֹטִי פֶרַע כֹּהֵן אֹן׃ Uleyosef yullad shenei vanim beterem tavo shenat hara‘av, asher yaldah-lo Asnat bat-Poti Fera‘ kohen On. And unto Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On bore unto him.
41:51 וַיִּקְרָא יוֹסֵף אֶת־שֵׁם הַבְּכוֹר מְנַשֶּׁה כִּי־נַשַּׁנִי אֱלֹהִים אֶת־כָּל־עֲמָלִי וְאֵת כָּל־בֵּית אָבִי׃ Vayiqra Yosef et shem habekhor Menasheh: ki nashshani Elohim et kol-‘amali ve’et kol-beit avi. And Joseph called the name of the first-born Manasseh: ‘For God hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.’
41:52 וְאֵת שֵׁם הַשֵּׁנִי קָרָא אֶפְרָיִם כִּי־הִפְרַנִי אֱלֹהִים בְּאֶרֶץ עָנְיִי׃ Ve’et shem hasheni qara Efrayim: ki hifrani Elohim be’eretz ‘onyi. And the name of the second called he Ephraim: ‘For God hath made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.’

42:34 וְהָבִיאוּ אֶת־אֲחִיכֶם הַקָּטֹן אֵלַי וְאֵדְעָה כִּי־לֹא מְרַגְּלִים אַתֶּם כִּי כֵנִים אַתֶּם אֶת־אֲחִיכֶם אֶתֵּן לָכֶם וְאֶת־הָאָרֶץ תִּסְחָרוּ׃ Vehavi’u et ajikhem haqqaton elai; ve’ed‘ah ki lo meraggelim atem, ki kenim atem; et ajikhem eten lakhem, ve’et ha’aretz tiskharu. and bring your youngest brother unto me; then shall I know that ye are no spies, but that ye are honest men; so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall traffic in the land.’
42:35 וַיְהִי הֵם מְרִיקִים שַׂקֵּיהֶם וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁ צְרוֹר כַּסְפּוֹ בְּשַׂקּוֹ וַיִּרְאוּ אֶת־צְרֹרוֹת כַּסְפֵּיהֶם הֵמָּה וַאֲבִיהֶם וַיִּירָאוּ׃ Vayehi hem meriqim saqqeihem, vehiné ish tzeror kaspo besaqo; vayir’u et tzerorot kaspeihem—hemah va’avihem—vayyira’u. And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack; and when they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were afraid.
42:36 וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם יַעֲקֹב אֲבִיהֶם אֹתִי שִׁכַּלְתֶּם יוֹסֵף אֵינֶנּוּ וְשִׁמְעוֹן אֵינֶנּוּ וְאֶת־בִּנְיָמִין תִּקָּחוּ עָלַי הָיוּ כֻלָּנָה׃ Vayomer aleihem Ya‘aqov avihem: Oti shikkaltem—Yosef enennu; veShim‘on enennu; ve’et Binyamin tiqqaju; ‘alai hayu kullanah. And Jacob their father said unto them: ‘Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away; all these things are against me.’
42:37 וַיֹּאמֶר רְאוּבֵן אֶל־אָבִיו לֵאמֹר אֶת־שְׁנֵי בָנַי תָּמִית אִם־לֹא אֲבִיאֶנּוּ אֵלֶיךָ תְּנָה אֹתוֹ עַל־יָדִי וַאֲנִי אֲשִׁיבֶנּוּ אֵלֶיךָ׃ Vayomer Re’uven el aviv lemor: Et shenei vanai tamit im-lo avi’ennu eleikha; tenah oto ‘al yadi, va’ani ashivennu eleikha. And Reuben spoke unto his father, saying: ‘Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee; deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him back to thee.’
42:38 וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא־יֵרֵד בְּנִי עִמָּכֶם כִּי־אָחִיו מֵת וְהוּא לְבַדּוֹ נִשְׁאָר וּקְרָאָהוּ אָסוֹן בַּדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר תֵּלְכוּ בָהּ וְהוֹרַדְתֶּם אֶת־שֵׂיבָתִי בְּיָגוֹן שְׁאוֹלָה׃ Vayomer: Lo yered beni ‘immakhem; ki ajiv met, vehu levado nish’ar; uqera’ahu ason baderekh asher telkhu vah; vehoradtem et seivati beyagon she’olah. And he said: ‘My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left; if harm befall him by the way in which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.’

And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. 3:16 אָז תָּבֹאנָה שְׁתַּיִם נָשִׁים זֹנוֹת אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ וַתַּעֲמֹדְנָה לְפָנָיו׃ Az tavo’nah shetayim nashim zonot el hammelekh; vata‘amodnah lefanav. Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
3:17 וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה הָאַחַת בִּי אֲדֹנִי אֲנִי וְהָאִשָּׁה הַזֹּאת יֹשְׁבֹת בְּבַיִת אֶחָד וָאֵלֵד עִמָּהּ בַּבָּיִת׃ Vatomer ha’ishah ha’aját: Bi, adoni; ani veha’ishah hazot yoshvot bevayit ejad; va’eled ‘immah babbayit. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
3:18 וַיְהִי בַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי לְלִדְתִּי וַתֵּלֶד גַּם־הָאִשָּׁה הַזֹּאת וַאֲנַחְנוּ יַחַד אֵין זָר אִתָּנוּ בַּבַּיִת זוּלָתִי שְׁתַּיִם־אֲנַחְנוּ בַּבָּיִת׃ Vayehi bayom hashelishi lelidti, vateled gam ha’ishah hazot; va’anajnu yajad; en zar ittanu babbayit; zulati shetayim-anajnu babbayit. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
3:19 וַיָּמָת בֶּן־הָאִשָּׁה הַזֹּאת לָיְלָה אֲשֶׁר שָׁכְבָה עָלָיו׃ Vayamat ben ha’ishah hazot laylah asher shajvah ‘alav. And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
3:20 וַתָּקָם בְּתוֹךְ הַלַּיְלָה וַתִּקַּח אֶת־בְּנִי מֵאֶצְלִי וַאֲמָתְךָ יְשֵׁנָה וַתַּשְׁכִּיבֵהוּ בְחֵיקָהּ וְאֶת־בְּנָהּ הַמֵּת הִשְׁכִּיבָה בְחֵיקִי׃ Vataqam betokh hallaylah, vatiqqaḥ et beni me’etzli va’amatekha yeshenah; vatashkivehu bejeyqah; ve’et benah hamet hishkivah bejeyqi. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
3:21 וָאָקוּם בַּבֹּקֶר לְהֵינִיק אֶת־בְּנִי וְהִנֵּה מֵת וָאֶתְבּוֹנֵן אֵלָיו בַּבֹּקֶר וְהִנֵּה לֹא־הָיָה בְנִי אֲשֶׁר יָלָדְתִּי׃ Va’aqum babboqer leheinik et beni; vehiné met; va’etbonen elav babboqer; vehiné lo haya beni asher yaladti. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
3:22 וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה הָאַחֶרֶת לֹא כִּי בְנִי הַחַי וּבְנֵךְ הַמֵּת וְזֹאת אֹמֶרֶת לֹא כִּי בְנֵךְ הַחַי וּבְנִי הַמֵּת וַיְּדַבֵּרוּ לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ Vatomer ha’ishah ha’ajeret: Lo, ki beni hajjay uveneikh hamet; vezot omeret: Lo, ki veneikh hajjay uveni hamet. Vayedabberu lifnei hammelekh. And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
3:23 וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ זֹאת אֹמֶרֶת זֶה־בְנִי הַחַי וּבְנֵךְ הַמֵּת וְזֹאת אֹמֶרֶת לֹא כִּי בְנֵךְ הַחַי וּבְנִי הַמֵּת׃ Vayomer hammelekh: Zot omeret—zeh beni hajjay, uveneikh hamet; vezot omeret—lo ki veneikh hajjay, uveni hamet. Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the living, and my son is the dead.
3:24 וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ קְחוּ־לִי חָרֶב וַיָּבִיאוּ הַחֶרֶב לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ Vayomer hammelekh: Qeju-li jarev; vayavi’u hajjerev lifnei hammelekh. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
3:25 וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ גִּזְרוּ אֶת־הַיֶּלֶד הַחַי לִשְׁנָיִם וּתְנוּ אֶת־הַחֶצְיָה לָאַחַת וְאֶת־הַחֶצְיָה לָאַחֶרֶת׃ Vayomer hammelekh: Gizru et hayyeled hajjay lishnayim; ut’nu et hachetzyah la’aját ve’et hachetzyah la’ajeret. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
3:26 וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה אֲשֶׁר־בְּנָהּ הַחַי אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּי נִכְמְרוּ רַחֲמֶיהָ עַל־בְּנָהּ וַתֹּאמֶר בִּי אֲדֹנִי תְּנוּ לָהּ אֶת־הַיֶּלֶד הַחַי וְהָמֵת אַל־תְּמִיתֻהוּ וְזֹאת אֹמֶרֶת גַּם־לִי גַם־לָךְ לֹא יִהְיֶה גְּזֹרוּ׃ Vatomer ha’ishah asher benah hajjay el hammelekh, ki nikmeru rajameha ‘al benah; vatomer: Bi, adoni—t’nu lah et hayyeled hajjay, vehamet al temituhu. Vezot omeret: Gam-li gam-lakh lo yihyeh; gezoru. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
3:27 וַיַּעַן הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר תְּנוּ־לָהּ אֶת־הַיֶּלֶד הַחַי וְהָמֵת לֹא תְמִיתֻהוּ הִיא אִמּוֹ׃ Vaya‘an hammelekh vayomer: T’nu-lah et hayyeled hajjay, vehamet lo temituhu—hi immo. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
3:28 וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ כָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּט אֲשֶׁר שָׁפַט הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּרְאוּ מִפְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּי רָאוּ כִּי־חָכְמַת אֱלֹהִים בְּקִרְבּוֹ לַעֲשׂוֹת מִשְׁפָּט׃ Vayishme‘u kol-Yisra’el et hammishpat asher shafat hammelekh; vayir’u mipnei hammelekh, ki ra’u ki jojmat Elohim beqirbo la‘asot mishpat. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
4:1 וַיְהִי הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה מֶלֶךְ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ Vayehi hammelekh Shelomoh melekh ‘al kol-Yisra’el. So king Solomon was king over all Israel.
