Aliyah 1 — Toldot (Bereishit 25:19–28) — English

19	These are the generations of Yitzchak, the son of Avraham; Avraham begot Yitzchak.
20	Yitzchak was forty years old when he took Rivkah, daughter of Betuel the Aramean of Paddan-Aram, sister of Lavan the Aramean, to be his wife.
21	Yitzchak pleaded with Hashem on behalf of his wife, for she was barren; and Hashem accepted his prayer, and Rivkah his wife conceived.
22	The children struggled within her, and she said, “If so, why am I thus?” So she went to inquire of Hashem.
23	And Hashem said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall separate from within you; one people shall be stronger than the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.”
24	When her days to give birth were fulfilled, behold—there were twins in her womb.
25	The first came out reddish, all of him like a hairy mantle; and they called his name Esav.
26	After that his brother came out, and his hand was grasping the heel of Esav; so his name was called Yaakov. Yitzchak was sixty years old when they were born.
27	The boys grew; Esav became a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Yaakov was a wholesome man, dwelling in tents.
28	Yitzchak loved Esav because he had a taste for game; but Rivkah loved Yaakov.

Aliyá 2

Aliyah 2 — English

29	Yaakov cooked a stew, and Esav came from the field, exhausted.
30	Esav said to Yaakov: “Please let me gulp down some of that red, that red stuff, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.
31	Yaakov said: “Sell me your birthright today.”
32	Esav said: “Behold, I am at the point of death; of what use is the birthright to me?”
33	Yaakov said: “Swear to me today.” He swore to him and sold his birthright to Yaakov.
34	Yaakov gave Esav bread and lentil stew; he ate and drank, got up and left. Thus Esav despised the birthright.

Aliyah 3 — English

1	There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Avraham; and Yitzchak went to Avimelech, king of the Philistines, to Gerar.
2	Hashem appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land that I tell you.”
3	“Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your seed I will give all these lands...”
4	“I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and give to your seed all these lands; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through your seed.”
5	“Because Avraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My teachings.”
6	Yitzchak dwelt in Gerar.

Aliyá 4

Aliyah 4 — English

7	The men of the place asked about his wife; and he said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” thinking the men of the place might kill him because of Rivkah.
8	After he had been there a long time, Avimelech looked through the window and saw Yitzchak caressing his wife Rivkah.
9	Avimelech called Yitzchak and said, “Behold, she is surely your wife! How then did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”
10	Avimelech said: “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us!”
11	Avimelech commanded all the people, saying: “He who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”
12	Yitzchak sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and Hashem blessed him.

Aliyá 5

Aliyah 5 — English

13	The man became great, and kept growing greater and greater until he became very great.
14	He had flocks, herds, and many servants; and the Philistines envied him.
15	All the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Avraham his father, the Philistines stopped up and filled with earth.
16	Avimelech said to Yitzchak: “Go away from us, for you have become too powerful for us.”
17	So Yitzchak departed, camped in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
18	Yitzchak dug again the wells that had been dug in the days of Avraham his father, and he called them by the same names that his father had called them.
19	Yitzchak’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of living water.
20	The herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Yitzchak’s herdsmen, saying: “The water is ours!” So he called the name of the well Ések (Contention).
21	They dug another well, and quarreled over it also; so he named it Sitnah (Hostility).
22	He moved on and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it; and he named it Rechovot (Broad Spaces), saying: “Now Hashem has made room for us, and we shall flourish in the land.”

Aliyá 6

Aliyah 6 — English

23	He went up from there to Beer Sheva.
24	Hashem appeared to him that night and said: “I am the Elohé of Avraham your father; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your seed for the sake of Avraham My servant.”
25	He built an altar there, called upon the Name of Hashem, pitched his tent there, and Yitzchak’s servants dug a well.
26	Avimelech came to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzat his adviser, and Phicol the commander of his army.
27	Yitzchak said: “Why have you come to me, seeing that you hated me and sent me away from you?”
28	They said: “We have clearly seen that Hashem has been with you; so we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us and you...’”
29	“That you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you, and have done to you only good, and sent you away in peace. You are now blessed of Hashem.”

Aliyá 7

Aliyah 7 — English

30	He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
31	They rose early in the morning and each swore to his brother; Yitzchak sent them away and they departed from him in peace.
32	That same day Yitzchak’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug, saying: “We have found water.”
33	He called it Shiv‘ah; therefore the name of the city is Beer Sheva to this day.
34	When Esav was forty years old, he took as wives Yehudit the daughter of Be’eri the Hittite, and Basemat the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
35	They were a source of grief to Yitzchak and Rivkah.
