1 שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת אֶל־יְהוָה בַּצָּרָתָה לִּי קָרָאתִי וַיַּעֲנֵנִי Shír ha-ma-a-lót. El Ado-nái ba-tza-rá-tah lí ka-rá-ti va-ya-a-né-ni. A Song of Ascents. In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me.
2 יְהוָה הַצִּילָה נַפְשִׁי מִשְּׂפַת־שֶׁקֶר מִלָּשׁוֹן רְמִיָּה Ado-nái hatz-tzi-láh naf-shí; mi-se-fat shé-ker mi-la-shón re-mi-yáh. Deliver me, O the LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
3 מַה־יִּתֵּן לְךָ וּמַה־יֹּסִיף לָךְ לָשׁוֹן רְמִיָּה Mah yi-tén le-kha u-mah yo-síf lákh; la-shón re-mi-yáh. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue?
4 חִצֵּי גִבּוֹר שְׁנוּנִים עִם גַּחֲלֵי רְתָמִים Khi-tzéi gi-bór she-nu-ním; im ga-kha-léi re-ta-mím. A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!
5 אוֹיָה־לִי כִּי־גַרְתִּי מֶשֶׁךְ שָׁכַנְתִּי עִם־אָהֳלֵי קֵדָר Oi-lí ki gar-tí me-shékh; sha-khan-tí im o-ha-léi Ké-dar. Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6 רַבַּת שָׁכְנָה־לָּהּ נַפְשִׁי עִם שׂוֹנֵא שָׁלוֹם Ra-bát sha-khe-náh la’-naf-shí; im so-né sha-lóm. Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace.
7 אֲנִי־שָׁלוֹם וְכִי אֲדַבֵּר הֵמָּה לַמִּלְחָמָה A-ní sha-lóm; u-khi a-dab-bér hé-mah la-mil-kha-máh. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
