1 שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת רַבַּת צְרָרוּנִי מִנְּעוּרַי יֹאמַר־נָא יִשְׂרָאֵל Shír ha-ma-a-lót. Ra-bát tze-ra-rú-ni mi-ne-u-rái; yo-mar na Yis-ra-él. A Song of Ascents. ‘Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth’ — let Israel now say —
2 רַבַּת צְרָרוּנִי מִנְּעוּרָי גַּם לֹא־יָכְלוּ לִי Ra-bát tze-ra-rú-ni mi-ne-u-rái; gam lo ya-khe-lú lí. ‘Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 עַל־גַּבִּי חָרְשׁוּ חֹרְשִׁים הֶאֱרִיכוּ למענותםלמענותםלְמַעֲנִיתָם Al ga-bí kha-re-shú kho-re-shím; he-e-rí-khu le-ma-a-ni-tám. The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.’
4 יְהוָה צַדִּיק קִצֵּץ עֲבוֹת רְשָׁעִים Ado-nái tza-dík; ki-tzétz a-vót re-sha-ím. The LORD is righteous; He has cut the cords of the wicked.
5 יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר כֹּל שֹׂנְאֵי צִיּוֹן Ye-vo-shú ve-yi-sogú a-khór; kál son-éi Tzi-yón. May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward!
6 יִהְיוּ כַּחֲצִיר גַּגּוֹת שֶׁקַּדְמַת שָׁלַף יָבֵשׁ Yih-yú ki-kha-tzir gag-gót; she-kid-mát sha-láf ya-vésh. Let them be like the grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up.
7 שֶׁלֹּא מִלֵּא כַפּוֹ קוֹצֵר וְחִצְנוֹ מְעַמֵּר She-lo mil-lé kha-p-pó ko-tzér; ve-khetz-nó me-a-mér. With which the reaper does not fill his hand nor the binder of sheaves his arms.
8 וְלֹא אָמְרוּ הָעֹבְרִים בִּרְכַּת־יְהוָה אֲלֵיכֶם בֵּרַכְנוּ אֶתְכֶם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה Ve-lo a-me-rú ha-o-ve-rím; bir-kaát Ado-nái a-le-khém; be-rákh-nu et-khém be-shém Ado-nái. While those who pass by do not say, ‘The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!’
