1 לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־מוּת לַבֵּן מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד׃ Lamnatséakh al-mut labén mizmor ledavid. For the leader, upon Muth-labben. A psalm of David.
2 אוֹדֶה יְהוָה בְּכָל־לִבִּי אֲסַפְּרָה כָּל־נִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ׃ Odé Adonai bekhol-libbí, asappráh kol-nifle'otékha. I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders.
3 אֶשְׂמְחָה וְאֶעֶלְצָה בָךְ אֲזַמְּרָה שִׁמְךָ עֶלְיוֹן׃ Esmkháh ve'e'eltsáh bakh, azammráh shimkhá Elyón. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
4 בְּשׁוּב אוֹיְבַי אָחוֹר יִכָּשְׁלוּ וְיֹאבְדוּ מִפָּנֶיךָ׃ Besúv oyeváy akhór, yikashlú veyo'vdú mippanékha. When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before You.
5 כִּי־עָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁפָּטִי וְדִינִי יָשַׁבְתָּ לְכִסֵּא שׁוֹפֵט צֶדֶק׃ Ki-'asíta mishpatí vediní, yashávta lekissé shofét tsédeq. For You have upheld my right and my cause; You sit on the throne as a righteous judge.
6 גָּעַרְתָּ גוֹיִם אִבַּדְתָּ רָשָׁע שְׁמָם מָחִיתָ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד׃ Ga'árta goyím, ibádta rashá', shemám makhíta le'olám va'ed. You have rebuked the nations; You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
7 הָאוֹיֵב תַּמּוּ חֳרָבוֹת לָנֶצַח וְעָרִים נָתַשְׁתָּ אָבַד זִכְרָם הֵמָּה׃ Ha'oyév tammú khorávot lanétsakh, ve'arím natáshta avád zikhrám hémmah. The enemy is finished in everlasting ruins; You have uprooted their cities; their very memory has perished.
8 וַיהוָה לְעוֹלָם יֵשֵׁב כּוֹנֵן לַמִּשְׁפָּט כִּסְאוֹ׃ VaAdonai le'olám yeshév, konén lamishpát kiss'ó. But the LORD is enthroned forever; He has established His throne for judgment.
9 וְהוּא יִשְׁפָּט־תֵּבֵל בְּצֶדֶק יָדִין לְאֻמִּים בְּמֵישָׁרִים׃ Vehú yishpát-tevél betsédeq, yadín le'ummím bemésharím. He judges the world in righteousness; He governs the peoples with equity.
10 וִיהִי יְהוָה מִשְׂגָּב לַדָּךְ מִשְׂגָּב לְעִתּוֹת בַּצָּרָה׃ Vihi Adonai misgáv laddákh, misgáv le'ittót batstsaráh. The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
11 וְיִבְטְחוּ בְךָ יוֹדְעֵי שְׁמֶךָ כִּי לֹא־עָזַבְתָּ דֹרְשֶׁיךָ יְהוָה׃ Veyivtekhú bekhá yod'é shemékha, ki lo-'azávta dorshékha Adonai. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You have not forsaken those who seek You, O LORD.
12 זַמְּרוּ לַיהוָה יֹשֵׁב צִיּוֹן הַגִּידוּ בָעַמִּים עֲלִילוֹתָיו׃ Zammrú laAdonai yoshév Tsiyyón, haggídu va'ammím 'alilotáv. Sing praises to the LORD who dwells in Zion; declare among the peoples His deeds.
13 כִּי־דֹרֵשׁ דָּמִים אוֹתָם זָכָר לֹא־שָׁכַח צַעֲקַת עֲנָוִים׃ Ki-dorésh damím otám zakhár, lo-shakhákh tsa'aqát 'anavím. For He who avenges blood remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
14 חָנֵּנִי יְהוָה רְאֵה עָנְיִי מִשֹּׂנְאָי מְרוֹמְמִי מִשַּׁעֲרֵי מָוֶת׃ Khonéni Adonai, re'éh 'onyí misson'áy, meromemí mishsha'aré mávet. Be gracious to me, O LORD; see my affliction from those who hate me, You who lift me from the gates of death,
15 לְמַעַן אֲסַפְּרָה כָּל־תְּהִלָּתֶיךָ בְּשַׁעֲרֵי בַת־צִיּוֹן אָגִילָה בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ׃ Lemá'an asappráh kol-tehillétekha, besha'aré vat-Tsiyyón agílah bishu'atékha. that I may declare all Your praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion, and rejoice in Your salvation.
16 טָבְעוּ גוֹיִם בְּשַׁחַת עָשׂוּ בְּרֶשֶׁת־זוּ טָמָנוּ נִלְכְּדָה רַגְלָם׃ Tav'ú goyím beshákhat 'asú, beréshet-zu tamánu nilkedáh raglám. The nations have sunk into the pit they made; in the net they hid, their own foot is caught.
17 נוֹדַע יְהוָה מִשְׁפָּט עָשָׂה בְּפֹעַל כַּפָּיו נוֹקֵשׁ רָשָׁע הִגָּיוֹן סֶלָה׃ Nodá' Adonai mishpát 'asáh, befo'al kappáv nokésh rashá', higgáyón seláh. The LORD has made Himself known; He has executed judgment; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
18 יָשׁוּבוּ רְשָׁעִים לִשְׁאוֹלָה כָּל־גּוֹיִם שְׁכֵחֵי אֱלֹהִים׃ Yashúvu resha'ím lish'óláh, kol-goyím shekhekhé Elohím. The wicked shall return to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.
19 כִּי לֹא לָנֶצַח יִשָּׁכַח אֶבְיוֹן תִּקְוַת עֲנָוִים תֹּאבַד לָעַד׃ Ki lo lanétsakh yishákakh evyón, tiqvát 'anavím tovad la'ád. For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
20 קוּמָה יְהוָה אַל־יָעֹז אֱנוֹשׁ יִשָּׁפְטוּ גוֹיִם עַל־פָּנֶיךָ׃ Kumáh Adonai, al-ya'óz enósh, yishapfú goyím al-panékha. Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail; let the nations be judged before You.
21 שִׁיתָה יְהוָה מוֹרָה לָהֶם יֵדְעוּ גוֹיִם אֱנוֹשׁ הֵמָּה סֶלָה׃ Shítah Adonai moráh lahém, yed'ú goyím enósh hémmah seláh. Set terror over them, O LORD; let the nations know that they are but men. Selah.

Brief Commentary

A psalm of thanksgiving for the LORD enthroned as righteous Judge, who has rebuked the nations and upheld the cause of His servant. It celebrates God as a refuge for the oppressed in times of trouble.

Those who know His name trust in Him, for He does not forget the cry of the afflicted, and the psalm prays that the nations may know they are but men.
