25:1

Sixth Reading
Abraham married another woman whose name wasKeturah. 
Vayosef Avraham vayikach ishah ushmah Kturah.

 

5:2

She bore him Zimran, Yakshan, Medan, Midian, Yishbak and Shuach. 
Vateled lo et-Zimran ve'et-Yokshan ve'et-Medan ve'et-Midyan ve'et-Yishbak ve'et-Shuach.

אוַיֹּ֧סֶף אַבְרָהָ֛ם וַיִּקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה וּשְׁמָ֥הּ קְטוּרָֽה:

 

 

 

 

בוַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֗וֹ אֶת־זִמְרָן֙ וְאֶת־יָקְשָׁ֔ן וְאֶת־מְדָ֖ן וְאֶת־מִדְיָ֑ן וְאֶת־יִשְׁבָּ֖ק וְאֶת־שֽׁוּחַ:

25:3

Yakshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were the Ashurim, Letushim and Leumim. 
VeYokshan yalad et-Sheva ve'et-Dedan uveney Dedan hayu Ashurim uLtushim uLe'umim.

גוְיָקְשָׁ֣ן יָלַ֔ד אֶת־שְׁבָ֖א וְאֶת־דְּדָ֑ן וּבְנֵ֣י דְדָ֗ן הָי֛וּ אַשּׁוּרִ֥ם וּלְטוּשִׁ֖ם וּלְאֻמִּֽים:

25:4

The sons of Midian were Eiphah, Epher,Enoch, Avidah and Elda'ah.

All these were Keturah's descendants. 
Uveney Midyan Eyfah vaEfer vaChanoch va'Avida ve'Elda'ah kol-eleh beney Keturah.

דוּבְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֗ן עֵיפָ֤ה וָעֵ֨פֶר֙ וַֽחֲנֹ֔ךְ וַֽאֲבִידָ֖ע וְאֶלְדָּעָ֑ה כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י קְטוּרָֽה:

25:5

Abraham gave all that he owned to Isaac. 
Vayiten Avraham et-kol-asher-lo le-Yitschak.

הוַיִּתֵּ֧ן אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֖וֹ לְיִצְחָֽק:

25:6

To the sons of the concubines that he had taken, Abraham [also] gave gifts. Then, while he was still alive, he sent them to the country of the East, away from his son Isaac. 
Velivney hapilagshim asher le-Avraham natan Avraham matanot vayeshalechem me'al Yitschak beno be'odenu chay kedmah el-erets Kedem.

ווְלִבְנֵ֤י הַפִּֽילַגְשִׁים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאַבְרָהָ֔ם נָתַ֥ן אַבְרָהָ֖ם מַתָּנֹ֑ת וַיְשַׁלְּחֵ֞ם מֵעַ֨ל יִצְחָ֤ק בְּנוֹ֙ בְּעוֹדֶ֣נּוּ חַ֔י קֵ֖דְמָה אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ קֶֽדֶם:

25:7

This, then, is the account of Abraham's years. He lived a total of 175 years. 
Ve'eleh yemey shney-chayey Avraham asher-chay me'at shanah veshiv'im shanah vechamesh shanim.

זוְאֵ֗לֶּה יְמֵ֛י שְׁנֵֽי־חַיֵּ֥י אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־חָ֑י מְאַ֥ת שָׁנָ֛ה וְשִׁבְעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה וְחָמֵ֥שׁ שָׁנִֽים:

25:8

Abraham breathed his last and died at a good age, old and satisfied, and he was gathered to his people. 
Vayigva vayamot Avraham beseyvah tovah zaken vesavea vaye'asef el-amav.

חוַיִּגְוַ֨ע וַיָּ֧מָת אַבְרָהָ֛ם בְּשֵׂיבָ֥ה טוֹבָ֖ה זָקֵ֣ן וְשָׂבֵ֑עַ וַיֵּאָ֖סֶף אֶל־עַמָּֽיו:

25:9

His sons, Isaac and Ishmael, buried him in Makhpelah Cave, in the field of Ephron son of Tzohar the Hittite, which borders Mamre. 
Vayikberu oto Yitschak veYishma'el banav el-me'arat haMachpelah el-sedeh Efron ben-Tsohar hachiti asher al-peney Mamre.

טוַיִּקְבְּר֨וּ אֹת֜וֹ יִצְחָ֤ק וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ בָּנָ֔יו אֶל־מְעָרַ֖ת הַמַּכְפֵּלָ֑ה אֶל־שְׂדֵ֞ה עֶפְרֹ֤ן בֶּן־צֹ֨חַר֙ הַֽחִתִּ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י מַמְרֵֽא:

25:10

The field that Abraham purchased from the children of Heth is thus where Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried. 
Hasadeh asher-kanah Avraham me'et beney-Chet shamah kubar Avraham veSarah ishto.

יהַשָּׂדֶ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־קָנָ֥ה אַבְרָהָ֖ם מֵאֵ֣ת בְּנֵי־חֵ֑ת שָׁ֛מָּה קֻבַּ֥ר אַבְרָהָ֖ם וְשָׂרָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ:

25:11

After Abraham died, God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived in the vicinity of Beer LaChai Roi. 
Vayehi acharey mot Avraham vayevarech Elohim et-Yitschak beno vayeshev Yitschak im-Be'er Lachay Ro'i.

יאוַיְהִ֗י אַֽחֲרֵי֙ מ֣וֹת אַבְרָהָ֔ם וַיְבָ֥רֶךְ אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־יִצְחָ֣ק בְּנ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב יִצְחָ֔ק עִם־בְּאֵ֥ר לַחַ֖י רֹאִֽי:

25:12

Seventh Reading
These are the chronicles of Ishmael son of Abraham, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's slave, bore to Abraham: 
Ve'eleh toldot Yishma'el ben-Avraham asher yaldah Hagar haMitsrit shifchat Sarah le-Avraham.

יבוְאֵ֛לֶּה תֹּֽלְדֹ֥ת יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל בֶּן־אַבְרָהָ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָֽלְדָ֜ה הָגָ֧ר הַמִּצְרִ֛ית שִׁפְחַ֥ת שָׂרָ֖ה לְאַבְרָהָֽם:

25:13

These are the names of Ishmael's sons in order of their birth: Nebayoth (Ishmael's first-born), Kedar, Adbiel, Mibsam, 
Ve'eleh shemot beney Yishma'el bishmotam letoldotam bechor Yishma'el Nevayot veKedar ve'Adbe'el uMivsam.

יגוְאֵ֗לֶּה שְׁמוֹת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אל בִּשְׁמֹתָ֖ם לְתֽוֹלְדֹתָ֑ם בְּכֹ֤ר יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ נְבָיֹ֔ת וְקֵדָ֥ר וְאַדְבְּאֵ֖ל וּמִבְשָֽׂם:

25:14

Mishma, Duma, Masa, 
UMishma veDumah uMasa.

ידוּמִשְׁמָ֥ע וְדוּמָ֖ה וּמַשָּֽׂא:

25:15

Chadad, Tema, Yetur, Nafish and Kedmah. 
Chadar veTeyma Yetur Nafish vaKedmah.

טוחֲדַ֣ד וְתֵימָ֔א יְט֥וּר נָפִ֖ישׁ וָקֵֽדְמָה:

25:16

Last Reading
These were Ishmael's sons, and these names were given to their towns and encampments. There weretwelve princes for their nations. 
Eleh hem beney Yishma'el ve'eleh shmotam bechatsreyhem uvetirotam shneym-asar nesi'im le'umotam.

טזאֵ֣לֶּה הֵ֞ם בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ וְאֵ֣לֶּה שְׁמֹתָ֔ם בְּחַצְרֵיהֶ֖ם וּבְטִֽירֹתָ֑ם שְׁנֵֽים־עָשָׂ֥ר נְשִׂיאִ֖ם לְאֻמֹּתָֽם:

25:17

This is the account of Ishmael's years. He lived a total of 137 years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people. 
Ve'eleh sheney chayey Yishma'el me'at shanah ushloshim shanah vesheva shanim vayigva vayamot vaye'asef el-amav.

יזוְאֵ֗לֶּה שְׁנֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אל מְאַ֥ת שָׁנָ֛ה וּשְׁלשִׁ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה וְשֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֑ים וַיִּגְוַ֣ע וַיָּ֔מָת וַיֵּאָ֖סֶף אֶל־עַמָּֽיו:

25:18

[His descendants] lived in the area from Havilah toShur (which borders on Egypt), all the way to Assyria.They overran all their brethren. 
Vayishkenu meChavilah ad-Shur asher al-peney Mitsrayim boachah Ashurah al-peney chol-echav nafal.

יחוַיִּשְׁכְּנ֨וּ מֵֽחֲוִילָ֜ה עַד־שׁ֗וּר אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י מִצְרַ֔יִם בֹּֽאֲכָ֖ה אַשּׁ֑וּרָה עַל־פְּנֵ֥י כָל־אֶחָ֖יו נָפָֽל:

25:19

First Reading
These are the chronicles of Isaac son of Abraham:

Abraham was Isaac's father. 
Ve'eleh toldot Yitschak ben-Avraham Avraham holid et-Yitschak.

יטוְאֵ֛לֶּה תּֽוֹלְדֹ֥ת יִצְחָ֖ק בֶּן־אַבְרָהָ֑ם אַבְרָהָ֖ם הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־יִצְחָֽק:

25:20

When Isaac was 40 years old, he married Rebecca, daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean of Padan Aramand sister of Laban the Aramaean. 
Vayehi Yitschak ben-arba'im shanah bekachto et-Rivkah bat-Betu'el ha'Arami miPadan Aram achot Lavan ha'Arami lo le'ishah.

כוַיְהִ֤י יִצְחָק֙ בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה בְּקַחְתּ֣וֹ אֶת־רִבְקָ֗ה בַּת־בְּתוּאֵל֙ הָֽאֲרַמִּ֔י מִפַּדַּ֖ן אֲרָ֑ם אֲח֛וֹת לָבָ֥ן הָֽאֲרַמִּ֖י ל֥וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה:

25:21

His wife was sterile, and Isaac pleaded with God for her sake. God granted his plea, and Rebecca became pregnant. 
Vaye'etar Yitschak l'Adonay lenochach ishto ki akarah hi vaye'ater lo Adonay vatahar Rivkah ishto.

כאוַיֶּעְתַּ֨ר יִצְחָ֤ק לַֽיהֹוָה֙ לְנֹ֣כַח אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ כִּ֥י עֲקָרָ֖ה הִ֑וא וַיֵּעָ֤תֶר לוֹ֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה וַתַּ֖הַר רִבְקָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ:

25:22

But the children clashed inside her, and when this occurred, she asked, 'Why is this happening to me?' She went to seek a message from God. 
Vayitrotsatsu habanim bekirbah vatomer im-ken lamah zeh anochi vatelech lidrosh et-Adonay.

כבוַיִּתְרֹֽצֲצ֤וּ הַבָּנִים֙ בְּקִרְבָּ֔הּ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אִם־כֵּ֔ן לָ֥מָּה זֶּ֖ה אָנֹ֑כִי וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ לִדְר֥שׁ אֶת־יְהֹוָֽה:

25:23

God's word to her was, 'Two nations are in your womb. Two governments will separate from inside you. The upper hand will go from one government to the other.The greater one will serve the younger.' 
Vayomer Adonay lah shney goyim bevitnech ushney le'umim mime'aych yiparedu ule'om mil'om ye'emats verav ya'avod tsa'ir.

כגוַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה לָ֗הּ שְׁנֵ֤י גוֹיִם֙ (כתיב גיים)בְּבִטְנֵ֔ךְ וּשְׁנֵ֣י לְאֻמִּ֔ים מִמֵּעַ֖יִךְ יִפָּרֵ֑דוּ וּלְאֹם֙ מִלְאֹ֣ם יֶֽאֱמָ֔ץ וְרַ֖ב יַֽעֲבֹ֥ד צָעִֽיר:

25:24

When the time came for her to give birth, there were twins in her womb. 
Vayimle'u yameyha laledet vehineh tomim bevitnah.

כדוַיִּמְלְא֥וּ יָמֶ֖יהָ לָלֶ֑דֶת וְהִנֵּ֥ה תוֹמִ֖ם בְּבִטְנָֽהּ:

25:25

The first one came out reddish, as hairy as a fur coat. They named him Esau. 
Vayetse harishon admoni kulo ke'aderet se'ar vayikre'u shmo Esav.

כהוַיֵּצֵ֤א הָֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ אַדְמוֹנִ֔י כֻּלּ֖וֹ כְּאַדֶּ֣רֶת שֵׂעָ֑ר וַיִּקְרְא֥וּ שְׁמ֖וֹ עֵשָֽׂו:

25:26

His brother then emerged, and his hand was grasping Esau's heel. [Isaac] named him Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when [Rebecca] gave birth to them. 
Ve'acharey-chen yatsa achiv veyado ochezet ba'akev Esav vayikra shmo Ya'akov veYitschak ben-shishim shanah beledet otam.

כווְאַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֞ן יָצָ֣א אָחִ֗יו וְיָד֤וֹ אֹחֶ֨זֶת֙ בַּֽעֲקֵ֣ב עֵשָׂ֔ו וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וְיִצְחָ֛ק בֶּן־שִׁשִּׁ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה בְּלֶ֥דֶת אֹתָֽם:

25:27

The boys grew up. Esau became a skilled trapper, a man of the field. Jacob was a scholarly man who remained with the tents. 
Vayigdelu hane'arim vayehi Esav ish yodea tsa'id ish sadeh veYa'akov ish tam yoshev ohalim.

כזוַיִּגְדְּלוּ֙ הַנְּעָרִ֔ים וַיְהִ֣י עֵשָׂ֗ו אִ֛ישׁ יֹדֵ֥עַ צַ֖יִד אִ֣ישׁ שָׂדֶ֑ה וְיַֽעֲקֹב֙ אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֔ם ישֵׁ֖ב אֹֽהָלִֽים:

25:28

Isaac enjoyed eating Esau's game and favored him, but Rebecca favored Jacob. 
Vaye'ehav Yitschak et-Esav ki-tsa'id befiv veRivkah ohevet et-Ya'akov.

כחוַיֶּֽאֱהַ֥ב יִצְחָ֛ק אֶת־עֵשָׂ֖ו כִּי־צַ֣יִד בְּפִ֑יו וְרִבְקָ֖ה אֹהֶ֥בֶת אֶת־יַֽעֲקֹֽב:

25:29

Jacob was once simmering a stew, when Esau came home exhausted from the field. 
Vayazed Ya'akov nazid vayavo Esav min-hasadeh vehu ayef.

כטוַיָּ֥זֶד יַֽעֲקֹ֖ב נָזִ֑יד וַיָּבֹ֥א עֵשָׂ֛ו מִן־הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה וְה֥וּא עָיֵֽף:

25:30

Esau said to Jacob, 'Give me a swallow of that red stuff! I'm famished!' (He was therefore given the nameEdom). 
Vayomer Esav el-Ya'akov hal'iteni na min-ha'adom ha'adom hazeh ki ayef anochi al-ken kara-shmo Edom.

לוַיֹּ֨אמֶר עֵשָׂ֜ו אֶל־יַֽעֲקֹ֗ב הַלְעִיטֵ֤נִי נָא֙ מִן־הָֽאָדֹ֤ם הָֽאָדֹם֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֥י עָיֵ֖ף אָנֹ֑כִי עַל־כֵּ֥ן קָֽרָא־שְׁמ֖וֹ אֱדֽוֹם:

25:31

'First sell me your birthright,' replied Jacob. 
Vayomer Ya'akov michrah chayom et-bechoratecha li.

לאוַיֹּ֖אמֶר יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב מִכְרָ֥ה כַיּ֛וֹם אֶת־בְּכֹרָֽתְךָ֖ לִֽי:

25:32

'Here I'm about to die!' exclaimed Esau. 'What good is a birthright to me?' 
Vayomer Esav hineh anochi holech lamut velamah-zeh li bechorah.

לבוַיֹּ֣אמֶר עֵשָׂ֔ו הִנֵּ֛ה אָֽנֹכִ֥י הוֹלֵ֖ךְ לָמ֑וּת וְלָֽמָּה־זֶּ֥ה לִ֖י בְּכֹרָֽה:

25:33

'Make an oath to me right now,' said Jacob.

He made the oath, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 
Vayomer Ya'akov hishave'ah li kayom vayishava lo vayimkor et-bechorato le-Ya'akov.

לגוַיֹּ֣אמֶר יַֽעֲקֹ֗ב הִשָּׁ֤בְעָה לִּי֙ כַּיּ֔וֹם וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע ל֑וֹ וַיִּמְכֹּ֥ר אֶת־בְּכֹֽרָת֖וֹ לְיַֽעֲקֹֽב:

25:34

Jacob then gave Esau bread and lentil stew. [Esau] ate it, drank, got up and left. He thus rejected the birthright.
VeYa'akov natan le-Esav lechem unezid adashim vayochal vayesht vayakom vayelach vayivez Esav et-habechorah.

לדוְיַֽעֲקֹ֞ב נָתַ֣ן לְעֵשָׂ֗ו לֶ֚חֶם וּנְזִ֣יד עֲדָשִׁ֔ים וַיֹּ֣אכַל וַיֵּ֔שְׁתְּ וַיָּ֖קָם וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ וַיִּ֥בֶז עֵשָׂ֖ו אֶת־הַבְּכֹרָֽה:
