Exodus - Chapter 6

6:1

God said to Moses, 'Now you will begin to see what I will do to Pharaoh. He will be forced to let them go. [Not only that, but] he will be forced to drive them out of his land.' 
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe atah tir'eh asher e'eseh le-Far'oh ki veyad chazakah yeshalchem uveyad chazakah yegarshem me'artso.

אוַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־משֶׁ֔ה עַתָּ֣ה תִרְאֶ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֖ה לְפַרְעֹ֑ה כִּ֣י בְיָ֤ד חֲזָקָה֙ יְשַׁלְּחֵ֔ם וּבְיָ֣ד חֲזָקָ֔ה יְגָֽרְשֵׁ֖ם מֵֽאַרְצֽוֹ:

6:2

First Reading
God spoke to Moses and said to him, '
I am YHVH. 
Vayedaber Elohim el-Moshe vayomer elav ani Adonay.

בוַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־משֶׁ֑ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָֽה:

6:3

I revealed Myself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty (El Shaddai), and did not allow them to know Me by My name YHVH. 
Va'era el-Avraham el-Yitschak ve'el-Ya'akov be'El Shaday ushmi Adonay lo nodati lahem.

גוָֽאֵרָ֗א אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֶל־יִצְחָ֥ק וְאֶל־יַֽעֲקֹ֖ב בְּאֵ֣ל שַׁדָּ֑י וּשְׁמִ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה לֹ֥א נוֹדַ֖עְתִּי לָהֶֽם:

6:4

I also made My covenant with them, [promising] to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, where they lived as foreigners. 
Vegam hakimoti et-briti itam latet lahem et-erets Kena'an et erets megureyhem asher garu vah.

דוְגַ֨ם הֲקִמֹ֤תִי אֶת־בְּרִיתִי֙ אִתָּ֔ם לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶ֖ם אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן אֵ֛ת אֶ֥רֶץ מְגֻֽרֵיהֶ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־גָּ֥רוּ בָֽהּ:

6:5

I have also heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are holding as slaves, and I have remembered My covenant. 
Vegam ani shamati et-na'akat beney Yisra'el asher Mitsrayim ma'avidim otam va'ezkor et-briti.

הוְגַ֣ם | אֲנִ֣י שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי אֶת־נַֽאֲקַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִצְרַ֖יִם מַֽעֲבִדִ֣ים אֹתָ֑ם וָֽאֶזְכֹּ֖ר אֶת־בְּרִיתִֽי:

6:6

'Therefore say to the Israelites [in My name], 'I am God. I will take you away from your forced labor in Egypt and free you from their slavery. I will liberate you with a demonstration of My power, and with great acts of judgment. 
Lachen emor livney-Yisra'el ani Adonay vehotseti etchem mitachat sivlot Mitsrayim vehitsalti etchem me'avodatam vega'alti etchem bizroa netuyah uvishfatim gedolim.

ולָכֵ֞ן אֱמֹ֥ר לִבְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֘ אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָה֒ וְהֽוֹצֵאתִ֣י אֶתְכֶ֗ם מִתַּ֨חַת֙ סִבְלֹ֣ת מִצְרַ֔יִם וְהִצַּלְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם מֵֽעֲבֹֽדָתָ֑ם וְגָֽאַלְתִּ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ בִּזְר֣וֹעַ נְטוּיָ֔ה וּבִשְׁפָטִ֖ים גְּדֹלִֽים:

6:7

I will take you to Myself as a nation, and I will be to you as a God. You will know that I am God your Lord, the One who is bringing you out from under the Egyptian subjugation. 
Velakachti etchem li le'am vehayiti lachem le'Elohim vidatem ki ani Adonay Eloheychem hamotsi etchem mitachat sivlot Mitsrayim.

זוְלָֽקַחְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֥ם לִי֙ לְעָ֔ם וְהָיִ֥יתִי לָכֶ֖ם לֵֽאלֹהִ֑ים וִֽידַעְתֶּ֗ם כִּ֣י אֲנִ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם הַמּוֹצִ֣יא אֶתְכֶ֔ם מִתַּ֖חַת סִבְל֥וֹת מִצְרָֽיִם:

6:8

I will bring you to the land regarding which I raised My hand, [swearing] that I would give it to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I will give it to you as an inheritance. I am God.' ' 
Veheveti etchem el-ha'arets asher nasati et-yadi latet otah le-Avraham le-Yitschak ule-Ya'akov venatati otah lachem morashah ani Adonay.

חוְהֵֽבֵאתִ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ אֶל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָשָׂ֨אתִי֙ אֶת־יָדִ֔י לָתֵ֣ת אֹתָ֔הּ לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּלְיַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וְנָֽתַתִּ֨י אֹתָ֥הּ לָכֶ֛ם מֽוֹרָשָׁ֖ה אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָֽה:

6:9

Moses related this to the Israelites, but because of theirdisappointment and hard work, they would no longer listen to him. 
Vayedaber Moshe ken el-beney Yisra'el velo sham'u el-Moshe mikotser ruach ume'avodah kashah.

טוַיְדַבֵּ֥ר משֶׁ֛ה כֵּ֖ן אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֤א שָֽׁמְעוּ֙ אֶל־משֶׁ֔ה מִקֹּ֣צֶר ר֔וּחַ וּמֵֽעֲבֹדָ֖ה קָשָֽׁה:

6:10

God spoke to Moses, saying, 
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.

יוַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶל־משֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר:

6:11

'Go, speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he will let the Israelites leave his land.' 
Bo daber el-Par'oh melech Mitsrayim vishalach et-bney Yisra'el me'artso.

יאבֹּ֣א דַבֵּ֔ר אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֖ה מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרָ֑יִם וִֽישַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵֽאַרְצֽוֹ:

6:12

Moses spoke, interrupting the revelation. 'Even the Israelites will not listen to me,' he said. 'How can I expect Pharaoh to listen to me? I have no self-confidence when I speak.' 
Vayedaber Moshe lifney Adonay lemor hen bney-Yisra'el lo-sham'u elay ve'eych yishma'eni Far'oh va'ani aral sfatayim.

יבוַיְדַבֵּ֣ר משֶׁ֔ה לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר הֵ֤ן בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֹא־שָֽׁמְע֣וּ אֵלַ֔י וְאֵיךְ֙ יִשְׁמָעֵ֣נִי פַרְעֹ֔ה וַֽאֲנִ֖י עֲרַ֥ל שְׂפָתָֽיִם:

6:13

God [then] spoke to [both] Moses and Aaron. He gave them instructions regarding the Israelites and Pharaoh, king of Egypt, so they would be able to get the Israelites out of Egypt. 
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe ve'el-Aharon vayetsavem el-beney Yisra'el ve'el Par'oh melech Mitsrayim lehotsi et-beney-Yisra'el me'erets Mitsrayim.

יגוַיְדַבֵּ֣ר יְהֹוָה֘ אֶל־משֶׁ֣ה וְאֶל־אַֽהֲרֹן֒ וַיְצַוֵּם֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶל־פַּרְעֹ֖ה מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרָ֑יִם לְהוֹצִ֥יא אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם:

6:14

Second Reading
These are the heads of their 
extended families:

The sons of Israel's first-born, Reuben: Enoch (Chanokh), Pallu, Chetzron and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben
Eleh rashey veyt-avotam beney Re'uven bechor Yisra'el Chanoch uFalu Chetsron veCharmi eleh mishpechot Re'uven.

ידאֵ֖לֶּה רָאשֵׁ֣י בֵֽית־אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּנֵ֨י רְאוּבֵ֜ן בְּכֹ֣ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל חֲנ֤וֹךְ וּפַלּוּא֙ חֶצְרֹ֣ן וְכַרְמִ֔י אֵ֖לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת רְאוּבֵֽן:

6:15

The sons of Simeon: Yemuel, Yamin, Ohad, Yakhin and Tzochar, as well as Saul, son of the Canaanite woman. These are the families of Simeon. 
Uveney Shim'on Yemu'el veYamin ve'Ohad veYachin veTsochar veSha'ul ben-haKna'anit eleh mishpechot Shim'on.

טווּבְנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֗וֹן יְמוּאֵ֨ל וְיָמִ֤ין וְאֹ֨הַד֙ וְיָכִ֣ין וְצֹ֔חַר וְשָׁא֖וּל בֶּן־הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֑ית אֵ֖לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת שִׁמְעֽוֹן:

6:16

According to their family records, these are the names ofLevi's sons: Gershon, Kehoth and Merari. Levi lived to be 137 years old. 
Ve'eleh shmot bney-Levi letoldotam Gershon uKehat uMerari ushney chayey Levi sheva ushloshim ume'at shanah.

טזוְאֵ֨לֶּה שְׁמ֤וֹת בְּנֵֽי־לֵוִי֙ לְתֹ֣לְדֹתָ֔ם גֵּֽרְשׁ֕וֹן וּקְהָ֖ת וּמְרָרִ֑י וּשְׁנֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י לֵוִ֔י שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁלשִׁ֛ים וּמְאַ֖ת שָׁנָֽה:

6:17

The families descending from GershonLivni and Shimi.
Beney Gershon Livni veShim'i lemishpechotam.

יזבְּנֵ֥י גֵֽרְשׁ֛וֹן לִבְנִ֥י וְשִׁמְעִ֖י לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם:

6:18

The sons of KehothAmramYitzharHebron (Chevron), and Uzziel. Kehoth lived to be 133 years old. 
Uveney Kehat Amram veYitshar veChevron ve'Uziel ushney chayey Kehat shalosh ushloshim ume'at shanah.

יחוּבְנֵ֣י קְהָ֔ת עַמְרָ֣ם וְיִצְהָ֔ר וְחֶבְר֖וֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵ֑ל וּשְׁנֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י קְהָ֔ת שָׁל֧שׁ וּשְׁלשִׁ֛ים וּמְאַ֖ת שָׁנָֽה:

6:19

The sons of MerariMachli and Mushi.

According to their family records, the above are the families of Levi. 
Uveney Merari Machli uMushi eleh mishpechot haLevi letoldotam.

יטוּבְנֵ֥י מְרָרִ֖י מַחְלִ֣י וּמוּשִׁ֑י אֵ֛לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת הַלֵּוִ֖י לְתֹֽלְדֹתָֽם:

6:20

Amram married his aunt Yokhebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived to be 137 years old. 
Vayikach Amram et-Yocheved dodato lo le'ishah vateled lo et-Aharon ve'et-Moshe ushney chayey Amram sheva ushloshim ume'at shanah.

כוַיִּקַּ֨ח עַמְרָ֜ם אֶת־יוֹכֶ֤בֶד דֹּֽדָתוֹ֙ ל֣וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֔ה וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֶת־אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן וְאֶת־משֶׁ֑ה וּשְׁנֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י עַמְרָ֔ם שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁלשִׁ֛ים וּמְאַ֖ת שָׁנָֽה:

6:21

The sons of YitzharKorach, Nefeg and Zikhri. 
Uveney Yitshar Korach vaNefeg veZichri.

כאוּבְנֵ֖י יִצְהָ֑ר קֹ֥רַח וָנֶ֖פֶג וְזִכְרִֽי:

6:22

The sons of UzzielMishaelEltzafan and Sithri. 
Uveney Uziel Misha'el ve'Eltsafan veSitri.

כבוּבְנֵ֖י עֻזִּיאֵ֑ל מִֽישָׁאֵ֥ל וְאֶלְצָפָ֖ן וְסִתְרִֽי:

6:23

Aaron married Nachshon's sister, Elisheva daughter ofAminadavShe bore him Nadav, AvihuEleazar andIthamar. 
Vayikach Aharon et-Elisheva bat-Aminadav achot Nachshon lo le'ishah vateled lo et-Nadav ve'et Avihu et-El'azar ve'et Itamar.

כגוַיִּקַּ֨ח אַֽהֲרֹ֜ן אֶת־אֱלִישֶׁ֧בַע בַּת־עַמִּֽינָדָ֛ב אֲח֥וֹת נַחְשׁ֖וֹן ל֣וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֑ה וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֗וֹ אֶת־נָדָב֙ וְאֶת־אֲבִיה֔וּא אֶת־אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וְאֶת־אִֽיתָמָֽר:

6:24

The sons of KorachAssirElkana and Aviasaf. These are the families of the Korachites. 
Uveney Korach Asir ve'Elkanah va'Aviasaf eleh mishpechot haKorchi.

כדוּבְנֵ֣י קֹ֔רַח אַסִּ֥יר וְאֶלְקָנָ֖ה וַֽאֲבִֽיאָסָ֑ף אֵ֖לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת הַקָּרְחִֽי:

6:25

Aaron's son, Eleazar, married one of the daughters ofPutiel, and she bore him Pinchas.

The above are the heads of the Levite clans according to their families. 
Ve'El'azar ben-Aharon lakach-lo mibenot Putiel lo le'ishah vateled lo et-Pinchas eleh rashey avot haLevi'im lemishpechotam.

כהוְאֶלְעָזָ֨ר בֶּן־אַֽהֲרֹ֜ן לָֽקַח־ל֨וֹ מִבְּנ֤וֹת פּֽוּטִיאֵל֙ ל֣וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֔ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־פִּֽינְחָ֑ס אֵ֗לֶּה רָאשֵׁ֛י אֲב֥וֹת הַֽלְוִיִּ֖ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם:

6:26

This then [is the lineage] of Moses and Aaron, to whom God said, 'Bring the Israelites out of Egypt en masse.' 
Hu Aharon uMoshe asher amar Adonay lahem hotsi'u et-beney Yisra'el me'erets Mitsrayim al-tsiv'otam.

כוה֥וּא אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן וּמשֶׁ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ לָהֶ֔ם הוֹצִ֜יאוּ אֶת־בְּנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם עַל־צִבְאֹתָֽם:

6:27

They are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, in order to get the Israelites out of Egypt. It [involved both] Moses and Aaron. 
Hem hamedabrim el-Par'oh melech-Mitsrayim lehotsi et-beney-Yisra'el miMitsrayim hu Moshe ve'Aharon.

כזהֵ֗ם הַֽמְדַבְּרִים֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֣ה מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֔יִם לְהוֹצִ֥יא אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם ה֥וּא משֶׁ֖ה וְאַֽהֲרֹֽן:

6:28

Still, on that day in Egypt, God spoke [only] to Moses. 
Vayehi beyom diber Adonay el-Moshe be'erets Mitsrayim.

כחוַיְהִ֗י בְּי֨וֹם דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶל־משֶׁ֖ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם:

6:29

Third Reading
God spoke to Moses and said, 'I am God. Relate to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, all that I am saying to you.' 
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor ani Adonay daber el-Par'oh melech Mitsrayim et kol-asher ani dover eleycha.

כטוַיְדַבֵּ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶל־משֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹ֖ר אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה דַּבֵּ֗ר אֶל־פַּרְעֹה֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם אֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י דֹּבֵ֥ר אֵלֶֽיךָ:

6:30

Interrupting the revelation, Moses said, 'I do not have the self-confidence to speak. How will Pharaoh ever pay attention to me?' 
Vayomer Moshe lifney Adonay hen ani aral sfatayim ve'eych yishma elay Par'oh.

לוַיֹּ֥אמֶר משֶׁ֖ה לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה הֵ֤ן אֲנִי֙ עֲרַ֣ל שְׂפָתַ֔יִם וְאֵ֕יךְ יִשְׁמַ֥ע אֵלַ֖י פַּרְעֹֽה:
