1 לְדָוִד מַשְׂכִּיל אַשְׁרֵי נְשׂוּי־פֶּשַׁע כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה LeDavid maskil. Ashrei nesui pesha‘; kesui ḥata’ah. Of David. A maskil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2 אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם לֹא יַחְשֹׁב יְהוָה לוֹ עָוֹן וְאֵין בְּרוּחוֹ רְמִיָּה Ashrei adam lo yaḥshov Adonai lo ‘avon; ve’ein beruḥo remiyyah. Blessed is the person to whom Adonai does not count iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 כִּי־הֶחֱרַשְׁתִּי בָּלוּ עֲצָמָי בְּשַׁאֲגָתִי כָּל־הַיּוֹם Ki heḥerashti, balu ‘atzamai; besha’agati kol hayom. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 כִּי יוֹמָם וָלַיְלָה תִּכְבַּד עָלַי יָדֶךָ נֶהְפַּךְ לְשַׁדִּי בְּחַרְבֹנֵי קַיִץ סֶלָה Ki yomam valailah tikhbad ‘alai yadekha; nehpakh leshaddi beḥarvonei kayitz. Selah. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned as by the droughts of summer. Selah.
5 חַטָּאתִי אוֹדִיעֲךָ וַעֲוֹנִי לֹא־כִסִּיתִי אָמַרְתִּי אוֹדֶה עֲלֵי פְשָׁעַי לַיהוָה וְאַתָּה נָשָׂאתָ עֲוֹן חַטָּאתִי סֶלָה Ḥattati odi‘akha, va‘avoni lo khissiti; amarti: odeh ‘alei fesha‘ai la-Adonai; ve’attah nasata ‘avon ḥattati. Selah. I made my sin known to You, and I did not cover my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to Adonai,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6 עַל־זֹאת יִתְפַּלֵּל כָּל־חָסִיד אֵלֶיךָ לְעֵת מְצֹא רַק לְשֵׁטֶף מַיִם רַבִּים אֵלָיו לֹא יַגִּיעוּ ‘Al zot yitpallel kol ḥasid eilekha le‘et metzo; rak leshetef mayim rabbim elav lo yaggi‘u. Therefore let every faithful one pray to You at a time when You may be found; surely when great waters overflow, they shall not reach him.
7 אַתָּה סֵתֶר לִי מִצַּר תִּצְּרֵנִי רָנֵּי פַלֵּט תְּסוֹבְבֵנִי סֶלָה Attah seter li; mitzar titzreni; rannei pallet tesoveveni. Selah. You are my hiding place; You preserve me from distress; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8 אַשְׂכִּילְךָ וְאוֹרְךָ בְּדֶרֶךְ־זוּ תֵלֵךְ אִיעֲצָה עָלֶיךָ עֵינִי Askilkha ve’orekha bederekh zu telekh; i‘atzah ‘alekha ‘eini. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
9 אַל־תִּהְיוּ כְּסוּס כְּפֶרֶד אֵין הָבִין בְּמֶתֶג־וָרֶסֶן עֶדְיוֹ לִבְלוֹם בַּל קְרֹב אֵלֶיךָ Al tihyu kesus kefered ein havin; bemeteg varesen ‘edyo livlom, bal kerov eilekha. Do not be like a horse or a mule, without understanding, whose mouth must be held with bit and bridle, lest they not come near you.
10 רַבִּים מַכְאוֹבִים לָרָשָׁע וְהַבּוֹטֵחַ בַּיהוָה חֶסֶד יְסוֹבְבֶנּוּ Rabbim makh’ovim larasha‘; vehabboteaḥ ba-Adonai ḥesed yesovevennu. Many are the pains of the wicked, but kindness surrounds the one who trusts in Adonai.
11 שִׂמְחוּ בַיהוָה וְגִילוּ צַדִּיקִים וְהַרְנִינוּ כָּל־יִשְׁרֵי־לֵב Simḥu va-Adonai vegilu tzaddikim; veharninu kol yishrei lev. Rejoice in Adonai and be glad, O righteous ones; sing joyfully, all you upright in heart.
