Adonai ori veyish‘i; mimi ira? Adonai ma‘oz ḥayyai; mimi efḥad? | Of David. Adonai is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Adonai is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
| When evildoers draw near against me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies against me, they stumble and fall.
| Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise against me, in this I will be confident.
אַחַת שָׁאַלְתִּי מֵאֵת־יְהוָה אוֹתָהּ אֲבַקֵּשׁ שִׁבְתִּי בְּבֵית־יְהוָה כָּל־יְמֵי חַיַּי לַחֲזוֹת בְּנֹעַם־יְהוָה וּלְבַקֵּר בְּהֵיכָלוֹ | Aḥat sha’alti me’et Adonai, otah avakkesh: shivti beveit Adonai kol yemei ḥayyai, laḥazot beno‘am Adonai ulevakker beheikhalo. | One thing I have asked of Adonai; that I will seek: to dwell in the house of Adonai all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of Adonai and to inquire in His temple.
| For He will hide me in His shelter on the day of trouble; He will conceal me in the hidden place of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock.
| And now my head shall be lifted above my enemies around me; I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to Adonai.
Shema‘ Adonai koli ekra; veḥonneni va‘aneni. | Hear, Adonai, my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me.
| To You my heart has said, “Seek My face.” Your face, Adonai, I will seek.
‘Ezrati hayita; al tittesheni ve’al ta‘azveni, Elohei yish‘i. | Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn Your servant away in anger. You have been my help; do not abandon me and do not forsake me, O God of my salvation.
| For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but Adonai will gather me in.
הוֹרֵנִי יְהוָה דַּרְכֶּךָ וּנְחֵנִי בְּאֹרַח מִישׁוֹר לְמַעַן שׁוֹרְרָי | Horeni Adonai darkekha; uneḥeni be’oraḥ mishor lema‘an shorerai. | Teach me Your way, Adonai, and lead me on a level path because of those who watch against me.
| Do not give me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and one who breathes violence.
לוּלֵא הֶאֱמַנְתִּי לִרְאוֹת בְּטוּב־יְהוָה בְּאֶרֶץ חַיִּים | Lule he’emanti lir’ot betuv Adonai be’eretz ḥayyim. | Had I not believed that I would see the goodness of Adonai in the land of the living...
| Hope in Adonai; be strong, and let your heart take courage; hope in Adonai.
